President Obama on Tuesday said he cannot guarantee that retirees will receive their Social Security checks August 3 if Democrats and Republicans in Washington do not reach an agreement on reducing the deficit in the coming weeks.
"I cannot guarantee that those checks go out on August 3rd if we haven't resolved this issue. Because there may simply not be the money in the coffers to do it," Mr. Obama said in an interview with CBS Evening News anchor Scott Pelley, according to excerpts released by CBS News.

This soundbite makes for an excellent and highly educational campaign commercial: Obama admitting that there is NO Social Security lockbox, that your SS contributions have already been spent, and that Social Security is totally BROKE and OUT OF MONEY if the U.S. can't continue to use its credit card.
Don't like the scaremongering, but . . . wow . . . this is good stuff to get The Truth About Rats and Social Security across to people.

This is not 1995. We now have instant communications, and many seniors are computer literate.
It is up to all of us to tell coworkers freinds and relatives that BO is lying and that the Treasury has plenty of revenue.
This is the last gasp of a collapsing administration.
Further, the House can pass a bill directing that all revenues to be prioritized for debt service, miitary, and SS-Medicare. The House sends the bill to the Senate. Reid might try to bury this bill but he has too many RAT senators from red states facing reelection next year. Reid cannot hold the dam.

I do remember the government shutdown in 1995 for which the Republicans were blamed, but it was the rats who shut it down. I don’t recall any government shutdowns in the 80s though

Seniors are not the ignorant, helpless chumps Obama thinks they are. Yes, some of them are still fairly easily scared. But many are the backbone of the Tea Party, they are the energy behind conservative dialogue on Twitter and elsewhere, they are well-educated on the issues by spending years in the audience of talk radio.
Obama is going to find out he picked up a snake with this one.
And I can’t wait for the commercials and soundbites showing, over and over again, how he ADMITTED that the Social Security funds are NOT in a lockbox, that the system is only one misstep away from being totally BROKE, and that the U.S. can’t pay its basic bills if it can’t keep raising the limit on its credit card with the “Bank of Government-Slave Taxpayers.”
I have a hard time believing that anyone that supports such a pure socialist system like this is a conservative.

On the deficit, a lot of Republicans say the Defense Department should not be cut, but there is a LOT of waste and stupid programs within DoD that have NOTHING to do with Defense (for example, the BILLIONS being spent on solar fields at all the bases and forts. The $18 million just spent at the nearby Air Force Academy, will take 60 years to pay for itself (by which time, the entire solar farm will have to be re-done 2 or 3 times). These farms are going up on most of the military posts in the US.
Last time it was military pay. Same old bs scare tactics. Who else can he stir up..unemployment checks? Smells of utter desparation, it does. Impeach this dangerous fool already.
