The royal couple attended the party of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA-LA) held at the Belasco Theatre, a 1926 art deco gem, recently undergone a restoration. Will is President of BAFTA and wanted to promote the British film industry.
At the start of the 3-hour dinner, Will drew laughter with a reference to the film, The Kings Speech, about his great-grand father, King George V1. I should just like to thank Colin Firth for my perfect opening line - 'I have a voice', he said.
Liveried waiters served cocktails featuring Champagne Taittinger, Grey Goose vodka Floral Martini cocktails and the British summertime drink, Pimm's No. 1 with chilled lemonade, mint and cucumber.
Hors d'oeuvres included bite-size fish and chips with malt vinegar espuma, crisp toast with locally-farmed English pea purée and tangerine lace, and towers of ahi tuna with avocado and soya onions. Dinner staff in bowler hats, Union Jack-inspired outfits, and Edwardian-style waistcoats.
Guests drank from gold goblets and ate from antique-style plates at tables dressed with blooms of English dahlias and roses and towering table lamps decorated with the British flag.
Chef Joachim Splichal's Patina Catering's memorable menu that blended British tradition with California cuisine. Highlights included a courgette and mint tian with a lemon and pine nut gremolata, shaved manchego cheese and courgette blossoms garnish to start, followed by filet of beef with creamed leeks, pickled garlic, asparagus, turnip, baby onions, potato fondant, and red wine sauce.
For dessert, guests had a version of the British dessert Eton Mess: English rose meringue, strawberries, cream, sugar-dusted edible rose petals and pulled sugar.
Villa Maria Private Bin Sauvignon Blanc and Villa Maria Private Bin Merlot Cabernet Sauvignon were poured and Hotel Chocolat provided chocolate BAFTA masks on the tables.

God help us.
I’m going to have to agree.
The author seems to have missed out on "sentence construction 101."
I really like her. She and William appear to be very much in love as well.
For us wimmins it’s a fun distraction from a lot of bad news we can do nothing about.
I may be old, but I am not fat, and I am not ugly, so I say this without any kind of jealousy. It’s so delightful to follow a thread about a young, beautiful, charming Princess who dresses beautifully, and doesn’t have to let it all hang out to be noticed.
I’m just so happy for them I could bust!
ROFLMRO
OMG!!! What a disgusting leech.
J-Lo dress looked like that of a tart! Hollywood women cannot hold a candle to Kate either in looks, or elegance.
I see your point and I have heard this from other women.
Absolutely agree!
That is the goofiest picture ever! LOL!! Reminds me of a picture of little kids who are just learning to “dress” themselves and not succeeding very well. Ha!
I know your type. You spend your days glued to the TV, watching “soaps” and then rant about the idiots who who watch that stuff. LOL!
Did you scroll through the pictures at the link? None of those glitterati even compared to her...they all very cheap and tawdry!
I have no idea what any of that is.
am i a complete loser?
don't answer that
I may regret asking this, but ... what was the ‘occasion’ for this photo, and who are the others in the pic?
Ever open the “with and without makeup”
photos at FOX? Cheap and tawdry is as good as it gets.
The one on the right is Mario the chef from the Food Network. I’ll not use any of his recipes again. No clue on the two other guys in the picture.
No thanks, I watch the history channel and USA, sometimes FOX news. However, my mom was able to watch Days of our lives in piece when I was very little by convincing me it was a cop show with Patch as the star. :D
