Holder bragged about Operation Gunrunner in 2009

On May 3, U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder testified before House Oversight and Government Reform Chairman Darrell Issa's committee that he only learned about the government's sale of weapons to Mexican drug cartels "in the last few weeks."

But Big Government found a 2009 speech by Holder on the Department of Justice's own website that proves the attorney general was well aware of Operation Gunrunner back in 2009:

The problem with Holder’s feigned ignorance is that he gave a speech in Cuernavaca, Mexico, on April 2, 2009, in which he boasted about Operation 'Gunrunner” and told Mexican authorities of everything he was doing to insure its success.

When questioned by the media, Holder also denied knowing anything about Gunrunner.....

Project Gunrunner was started in 2008. Its purpose was to stop straw purchases of weapons here in the US that were destined for Mexico. By early 2009 it had accounted for about 1200 arrests. These were accomplished BEFORE those weapons hit the border.
Project Gunrunner should in no way be confused with Operation Fast and Furious or Operation Castaway.
“Gunwalker” is just a term coined by the media and has no basis in reality as the name of a government program or operation.

1) Project Gunrunner was the Bush era operation which was designed to catch straw purchasers in the US and resulted in about 1200 arrests.
2) Operation Fast and Furious was the Obama era plan to allow straw purchasers to transport weapons across the border into Mexico to see where they ended up. (supposedly)
3) Operation Castaway was the same as F&F only Honduras was the (first) destination of the weapons
4) Gunwalker was a term coined by the media and has no true basis as the name of a gov’t. operation.

Ya can’t know the players if ya don’t have a scorecard.

There's "Gunrunner" and there's "Gunwalker" (Fast & Furious):   Conderate Yankee clarifies   Actually - they probably used similar names on purpose to keep things totally obscured.

Roger Hedgecock acquired a copy of the speech (from the "doj" web site, I think), and read the relevant part during the first segment of this hour of his show:

So you don’t find the implications of the language in paragraphs 5 and 6 of his speech
http://www.justice.gov/ag/speeches/2009/ag-speech-090402.html
(as cited by GlockThe Vote’s thread on 7/8) a
clear indication that Gunrunner had been expanded into something like Fast/Furious involving operations both north and south of the border?

http://thetruthaboutguns.com/2011/07/brad-kozak/atf-death-watch-33-c-spans-smoking-gun/ Watch the video, about the 54 second mark. That might get you a little closer--and he does call it "Gun runner".

Fair enough. But isn’t the key point that the published text of Holder’s speech in Mexico in April 2009 gives a clear indication that he was aware of plans for the DOJ/ATF/FBI to expand Gunrunner to entail operations both in Mexico and the US—just what became F&F starting 5 months later?

Good point.... Would like to time his trial after Erkel Mugabe is out of office to avoid a pardon.

I want that pos in JAIL at the very least.

All that speech proves is that Holder knew about Gunrunner just as many did. The key to Holder’s (and Zer0’s) knowledge about F&F is in how it was funded......and THAT was part of the stimulus bill. Lemme search out that link.

“The problem with Holder’s feigned ignorance is that he gave a speech in Cuernavaca, Mexico, on April 2, 2009, in which he boasted about Operation ‘Gunrunner” and told Mexican authorities of everything he was doing to insure its success. “

Then this means that the Mexican Government was LYING when they said they were not INFORMED of Operation Gunwalker/Gunrunner/Fast+Furious.

Thanks. Smoking gun indeed. It really gets interesting at the end (about 1:04) when he indicates that ATF will now be assigned to Mexico to trace weapons trafficked to the cartel members..

I could say I was “jes’ funnin’” and leave it at that, but since you insist. At best (assuming one is a Holder supporter) the Holder speech provides more than ample cause for Rep. Issa, or any other congress-critter, to demand any and all documents (e.g. emails, correspondence, memoranda, notes, etc.) related to what Holder knew (and “when he stopped knowing it”). At worst, it should (at least in the independent/alternative media) set off a minor firestorm (inasmuch as Eric the Red literally said he knew naught of “Gun Runner”), and that could produce the consummation most of us devoutly wish, less those who are incredibly naive or willfully obtuse (like the Anthony jurors). As for what “By God” YOU “need”, I care not a fig. Is that good enough for you?

Holder stated:
“Last week, our administration launched a major new effort to break the backs of the cartels. My department is committing 100 new ATF personnel to the Southwest border in the next 100 days to supplement our ongoing Project Gunrunner, DEA is adding 16 new positions on the border, as well as mobile enforcement teams, and the FBI is creating a new intelligence group focusing on kidnapping and extortion. DHS is making similar commitments, as Secretary Napolitano will detail....But as today’s conference has emphasized, the problem of arms trafficking will not be stopped at the border alone. Rather, as our experts emphasized, this is a problem that must be met as part of a comprehensive attack against the cartels – an attack in depth, on both sides of the border, that focuses on the leadership and assets of the cartel. This is the type of full-bore, prosecution-driven approach that the U.S. Department of Justice took to dismantle La Cosa Nostra”

To me his words suggest far more than that Holder just “knew about Gunrunner”....he knew it was going to be broadly expanded, into Mexico, 5 months before it happened.

Here ya go

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2745149/posts

The four Congressmen behind HR 495 are Reyes TX, Rodriguez TX, Teague NM and Engel NY.

As is always the case in scandals and cover-ups...FOLLOW THE MONEY!

Holder and Zer0 knew about all this early on. Hell, they planned it for PROPAGANDA PURPOSES. They FACILITATED the illegal shipment of illegally purchased weapons out of this country. Only problem was, the numbers weren't high enough for their purposes. That's why the FBI started using TAXPAYER MONEY to have informants buy weapons!

The speech referenced at the start of this thread proves nothing of consequence.

Here is a link to the folks who have covered this very well. IIRC, this is where the term “Gunwalker Scandal” originated. Unfortunately, their posts are newest first, so you’ll have to scroll to the bottom and hit “older posts” and keep doing that to get to the start. This is the blog that American Thinker and others got a lot of their information.
