Unbelievable: TV Reporter Mocks Romney's Mormonism
Commentary ^ | July 7, 2011

Posted on 07/09/2011 6:52:15 PM PDT by T.L.Sink

Polls show there's an anti-Mormon bias among voters - especially Democrats, more than a quarter of whom say they wouldn't vote for a Mormon. But this video of a Memphis Fox affiliate ridiculing Mitt Romney about his religion is a real wake-up call [video]. The whole news segment appears to be about Mormonism and the 2012 election, but skip ahead to the 3:20 mark for the worst of it [video].

You're apparently still Mormon because you see everyone else as if they're one.

O...K...

I suspect that MORMON MOCKING is close by!

JESUS: Hey Smith!       Remember that boast you made about doing more than even I had done to hold the 'church' together?

JOSEPH SMITH: Where am I?

JESUS: Don't you remember? A few seconds ago you were in that jail.

JOSEPH SMITH: Oh; yeah; but where am I NOW?

JESUS: Don't you remember? Does bang - bang ring a bell?

JOSEPH SMITH: Oh; yeah - that crummy gun I had was about USELESS!

JESUS: I hope you left instructions on how to hold your church together.

JOSEPH SMITH: Dang! I knew there was SOMETHING I was forgetting!

JESUS: Looks like there's a power struggle going on down there.

JOSEPH SMITH: Yeah; there was always SOMEone who wanted the power that I held - especially over the LADIES - wink wink.

JESUS: No need to worry about that now; remember what my friend Matthew wrote down?

JOSEPH SMITH: This? “At the resurrection people will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven” (Matthew 22:30)

JESUS: That's it.

JOSEPH SMITH: I thought that was mistranslated.

JESUS: Nah - it was right.

JOSEPH SMITH: Oh well; it was fun while it lasted. My buds will still get it on with the girls.

JESUS: Uh; I'm sorry; in just a few more years; your followers will cavein to the United States government and abandon the 'Eternal Covenant' that you came up with.

JOSEPH SMITH: ME!? YOU are the one that told me to do that!

JESUS: Sorry; but you must have mistranslated what I told you. What part of Do NOT commit ADULTERY did you not understand?

JOSEPH SMITH: mumble....

JESUS: What did you say?

JOSEPH SMITH: Oh, nothing.

JESUS: Well; it was interesting talking to you; but now I must get back to perparing a place for those who believe in Me.

JOSEPH SMITH: Oh, yeah; the Celestial Kingdom.

JESUS: No...

JOSEPH SMITH: The Telestial one?

JESUS: Nope.

JOSEPH SMITH: SUREly not the TERRESTRIAL one!!

JESUS: Nope. Didn't you read that the mind of man had NOT conceived of it? Paul wrote it down in 1 Corinthians 2:9.

JOSEPH SMITH: I thought that was mistranslated.

JESUS: No; it wasn't.

JOSEPH SMITH: You SURE?

JESUS: Yes. Now I must be going: what did you say your name was again?

JOSEPH SMITH: Joseph Smith.

JESUS: Hmmmm. According to my Heavenly FAITHbook, you didn't sign in as one of my friends - sorry, I never knew you.

JOSEPH SMITH: But....

It's REALLY tough; for if you read in D&C 132, you'll see that I need to practice the ETERNAL thingy that GOD set up: POLYGAMY; but my CHURCH has apparently tossed GOD under the bus in favor of STATEHOOD.

I've got a few of my lady friends convinced, but they are afraid of being EXCOMMUNICATED from The CHURCH of JESUS CHRIST of Latter-day Saints.

"This entire video was not mocking mormons is was mocking mormonISM." This is the same argument that the anti-war folks like to use, "I support the troops, but not the war." You can't have someone mock Mormonism and not be mocking Mormons because they believe it.

I have to assume that you let post 273 stand, you are defending Mormonism against Christians.

The question everyone keeps asking you, is why are you so dedicated to this, what is your goal, your purpose, your intention?

Well, I am prophesying that your church will soon change their mind and bring it back and that will help you a lot.

Why? I have mormon family and friends and would never mock them. I will mock mormonSIM because it is mockable. Your attempted analogy to troops/war doesn't work.

I had to go looking for the video off-site. It was one of the most blatant hit pieces ever. Funny, given the Ben Ferguson was introduced as a conservative. Would they do that with a Muslim, they have some pretty strange beliefs? How about any other religion. Of course, they wouldn’t go after Reid. Shame on Memphis Fox.

They do it with Christians all the time. Why should Mormons (who are not Christians) be exempt?

And it wasn’t a hit piece, it was asking people about Mormon doctrine a very central doctrine to Mormonism.

Would you consider it mocking if they were to ask if an evangelical believed they were saved by grace? Or that a serial killer could go to heaven if they accepted Jesus on their deathbed?

This entire video was not mocking mormons is was mocking mormonISM.

The question was about the man--"would you vote for a man who believed...?"

So tell us-- Would you vote for a man whose religion believed in celebrating the killing of his god and eating him?

“I couldn’t care less about his religion. I’m more concerned with his liberalism.”

Both are of concern to me. However, the liberalism is of more concern.

I don’t know of such a religion. You will have to expand on that.

“As a poster already stated, it mkaes it doubly hard to reach the people caught up in this religion when idiot reporters mock people who are being deceived.”

True, because Mormonism is such an insidious thing that can fool people that it is real Christianity. I call it “chocolate covered poison.” Those poor souls are trapped in a lie they need to be rescued from.

Ever heard of “two wrongs don’t make a right”?

It was a hit piece because there was no background, no context about those specific points.

If people were asked, “Would you vote for someone who prays to statues”, what reaction do you think they would get?

Romney isn’t running for chief Mormon. Mormonism is being brought up as a way to get him out. Classic Progressive tactic. Saul Alinsky pointed it out.

I merely pointed out the "blacks" having "the mark of the beast" was at one time a screwball position taken by the Mormon faith. You then posted several bits from Mormon Doctrine which verified this assertion.

I never represented that this was a view that I held personally, and apart from possibly a weird need to tilt at imaginary windmills, I have no idea how you got a bug up your butt about me.

Please go harass other innocent bystanders who will put up with your neuroses, because I'm about fed up, sweety-pie.

You said you wanted to know "where in the Bible" it referred to people bearing "the mark of Satan." I pointed out one of the several such referrences, you then post the relevant scripture to me with the advice:

"Try again."

(???!!!!)

I think you're borderline psychotic, and I'm neither qualified nor disposed to give you therapy.
