Washington (CNN) - President Barack Obama is seeking $3 trillion to $4 trillion in deficit cuts over the next decade, a move that would require putting Social Security, Medicare, defense spending and tax reform on the table as part of a balanced approach to cuts, Democratic officials familiar with the negotiations told CNN.
The officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, did not say what types of cuts would have to be considered under such a proposal. In the past, one Social Security adjustment debt negotiators have discussed is cost-of-living.

He’s pushing the debt to the next administration to deal with. It’s what they’ve been doing for over 20 years now. If he wants cuts, why not now... before it’s too late? Truth is 3 or 4 billion dollars won’t be worth squat in 5 years. Our dollar is going to collapse before that and take our country down with it. Obama is surely the scum of the earth, but so is most of Washington. The federal gov’t has destroyed the United States.
err billion = trillion :)

[Obama] will be reelected - this is the most liberal President ever in the history of the USA and the left in America will lick their wounds and send him back to the WH.

The liberal faction in this country is nowhere near large enough in number to get Obama re-elected on its own. So please name ONE thing this Marxist-in-Chief has done that you think a majority of the country is going to want four more years of when the November 2012 election finally arrives???
Cut 3-4 trillion in ONE YEAR or forget the scam!
It wasn't all paid out the same day.
Therefore in my layman terms, it was funded.
I didn't even mention trust fund, nor did I imply that there was one.
Money came in, congress took it and replaced it with worthless IOU's.
Repeating my message you are responding to, it could have been put in an investment venue and gained interest.
Of course the money wasn't "locked" up. That was my point.
Just like the General Fund here in California, governors treat it like their personal mad money. Same with the fed gov with the ss and medicare funds.
I'm glad you posted and got your points across, but they hardly addressed what I posted...
Taxes go into effect immediately.
This is BS. I dont want cuts over a decade. I want them today.
“Still, had cuts been implemented ten years ago, wed be enjoying those benefits now.”
Do you really believe that? The cuts are all smoke and mirrors.
The period for the cuts should be restricted to two years, five at the most.
The cuts must be specific. The cuts must not be at the discretion of the President.
In economic and legal terms there never was a genuine trust fund that was funded, nor was it intended that there be one. In point of fact, withholding taxes come in fairly continuously and hit the door on the way out almost immediately, though not necessarily the day they come in.
The points I made weren’t really directed at you. These threads inevitably attract people who want to believe that there was a “lockbox”, “trust fund”, etc. that were somehow looted. Evryone needs to understand, as I believe you do, that this language was used by FDR and his successors as a way of deceiving the public.
Sorry about the confusion.
Unfortunately this will never happen. Ever. We would need not only the House and Senate, but the WH, and every seat with a die hard conservative with balls of steel (the kind that could stand their ground when a charging grizzly is almost upon them). They (Dems and Rinos) will burn Rome to the ground before they burn off the excess fat which get them votes.
I guess James Madison was right all along.
“Do you really believe that? The cuts are all smoke and mirrors.’
Smoke and mirror cuts don’t work. Real cuts do. I was presuming real cuts.
Some cuts are real.
I believe you answered your question at the beginning with the 51%.This is the huge problem when a large number of that % can vote legally or illegally.
” HUSSEIN is a liar, period, nuff said. “
Nuff said is right. He will lie, cheat & steal, and cut nothing.
” My guess is that Obama does plan to cut three to four trillion dollars. And those cuts will take place over the next 237 years “
.....don’t forget the “or until hell freezes over” clause
;-)
Yes, good advice...

Very easy to answer - we have 51% of the population in America that apparently LIKE wealth redistribution - they pay NO income taxes. Add to that the slave guilt complex in this nation and he WILL be reelected. The only hope conservatives have is to take the Senate and increase our number of seats in the House, then stop him in his tracks. Since he ignores the Constitution and only enforces the laws that Congress passed and prior Presidents signed into law, he WILL HAVE TO BE IMPEACHED. This will be possible if conservatives have enough House members. I do not see the numbers indicating that he will be thrown out. Approval index SHOULD be down around -30 by now.
Just my opinion. Why are his approval numbers still this high, with all the destruction this guy has brought upon us.

Believe it or not, Gallup actually had Jimmy Carter’s job approval numbers as high as 58% in January 1980, the year he was up for re-election. Then as voters started to pay closer attention to the upcoming election and ask themselves Reagan’s famous question: “Are we better off now than we were four years ago?”, Americans were finding themselves increasingly anxious and at odds with the nation’s rising unemployment, soaring inflation and interest rates, high gasoline prices and shortages, stagnant GDP, and international crises. These are pretty much the same issues Obama faces today, in addition to exploding debt and deficits, failed costly stimulus plans, increased government intervention and takeover of private industries, the erosion of our personal liberties, and a VERY unpopular Obamacare law.
We all know what happened to Carter in November 1980 and history is on pace to repeat itself. If the next presidential election were held today, I’m convinced Obama would lose in a LANDSLIDE hands down. Again, what exactly can he say he has done that would possibly galvanize a majority of the American people? Poll after poll shows that Americans are overwhelmingly VERY unhappy with the current direction of this country. Millions voted in Obama in 2008 because the media portrayed him as a messianic-like figure unlike anything we had ever seen before. In the process, these gullible people fell in love with the idea of wanting be a part of history by voting in the first (half) black president. Well, that will not be enough to win this time around. Obama now has a record and a very horrible one at that. The bloom is off the rose and his novelty has long worn off.
Barring a miraculous economic turnaround between now and November 2012 (which I absolutely don’t see happening because Obama is a committed Keynesian Marxist who is married to his radical left-wing ideology), there is no way Hussein gets re-elected in 2012. I just don’t see it. And it’s probably all the more reason I get so annoyed when I see fellow Freepers constantly wringing their hands about how we can’t beat Obama and the Democrats.
