Oops: Obama Gets Age Of His Own Daughter Wrong

"Malia And Sasha generally finish their homework a day ahead of time. Malia's 13, Sasha's 10. It is impressive. They don't wait until the night before, they're not pulling all-nighters," President Obama said at his press briefing today.

Obama was making the point that if his daughters can get their homework done on time, then Congress should be able to do the same thing.

However, there is only one tiny problem. Malia, Obama's oldest daughter, is not yet 13. She is 12 and will turn 13 next month on July 4th.

Pray tell, how can they finish “ homework” a day or two in advance of it being assigned???

Most homework is assigned at the beginning of the school week, and is due by Thursday or Friday. That's for the weekly assignments. More long term assignments such as book reports or projects are assigned weeks in advance of the due date. This was true when I was in k-12 schools, it was true when my children were in k-12 schools, and it has been true for my granchild who is entering 7th grade in August. It has also been true in the 4 school districts that I have worked for over the past 15 years.

If my daughter were shortly having a birthday, I’d round up, too.

From 12 to 13? No way.

That birth date is a milestone date in a child's life, as are others: 15 to 16, 17 to 18, 20 to 21 and later 29 to 30. To make that error shows a disconnect with his family, understandable as his mind may be elsewhere, but it is a disconnect.

I can see rounding up the age because bday’s next week. But I cannot see bragging in an official conference that his daughters finish their homework on time.

What possible privilege or benefit or advantage could they lack that would get in the way of their finishing their homework? Their mother has a staff of 23. Their grandmother lives upstairs in the White House. Their father works 4 hours per week.

There have never been 2 children with less excuse to not finish their homework. Really it isn’t something to brag about.

This is NOT a gaffe equal to the “57 states” comment, or his delusions of “messiah”-ness. As another poster pointed out this is a really petty charge...

I have to admit to getting my daughters’ ages wrong once in a while (especially in the few months between my youngest ones birthdays when they are only “a year apart” instead of two number wise). I literally have to stop and think sometimes as to their ages - especially as kids are wont to start talking about how old they WILL be 6 months in advance! Of course, I have FOUR daughters and Obama has two, but then I’m not (pretending to be) the President.

I give him a pass on this one... Let’s stick to educating people regarding his complete disregard for the Constitution, his NON-Natural Born Citizen status, his illegal war in Libya (support for the Muslim Brotherhood), his ties to terrorists here and abroad, his disregard for the alliance with Israel due to his genocidal beliefs, etc... etc... etc...

A parent screwing up the age of a child who has a birthday in less than a week? Makes folks look ridiculous in light of the REALLY important crap going on...

Yet Obama speaks the King's English in contrast to the fool babbling away on MSNBC right now. Al Sharpton is evidently hosting one of their low-rated programs now. I caught this while scanning from FX back to Fox News.

I've heard Sharpton speak on occasion (on O'Reilly) but in this context as a host, he's absolutely illiterate and mangling words. Just now he told his guest that he would "axe" a question. Moments later, his query to a guest consisted of "What up?" [sic]. Al Sharpton (and no, I shall not use the honorific of "Reverend" for this charlatan) is incapable of forming a coherent sentence. I doubt that even the most skillful speech therapist could remedy this clown.

What Susan Alexander Kane was to opera, Al Sharpton is to the English language.

I have never ever heard of a 10- or 12-year-old having to pull an all-nighter even if they waited till the night before a project is due, and I live in an extremely competitive school district!!!!

He is sooooo out of touch because homework is usually assigned daily for next day submission, and its purpose is to reinforce daily classroom lessons.

There is more than ONE tiny problem here! The other problems are the congresspeople who insist on raising the debt ceiling come hell-or-high water and won't do the right thing for the economy which is to lower taxes and reduce spending big time.

Let's don't allow the temptation to nit-pick over his idiotic speeches TOTUS readings to cloud the real issue. Congress can't get the job done as long as the definition of "get the job done" remains "agree with Obama".
