Tonight, around 11 p.m., a group of at least 60-70 African American youth marched down one of the side streets (W. Thrush) to the 4 lane main drag (Sheridan). They were yelling threats to white residents. Things such as we need to kill alll the white people around here.

First, "blacks" or "colored" people were not the only folks held as slaves in the "new world."
Second, "white" people were not the only folks holding slaves in the "new world."
The Dread Scott decision determined prescedence from a colonial era case: A slave owner successfully argued a slave ought to be held forever; as opposed to the traditional Biblical view of seven years. A colonial era "colored" slave holder, holding a "colored" slave, plead his case to a "colored" judge. And the "colored" judge agreed with "colored" slave owner.

well I guess if a local politician says it ain't so, and the always trustworthy print media says the incident was blown out of proportion, I guess I should believe them, right?
Damage control and spin. I tend to think the original reports from residents are far more credible than the sound bites of “outraged” council members.
Although I wasn't there and I know nothing of the actual event which transpired, the PJStar account sounds much less credible than the original eye witness report. The overt attempt by the city councilwoman to smear a constituent rather than respond to the actual allegations is quite telling. The article goes on to describe other witnesses of elements of the original account without acknowledging any credibility for the original report. If there are racially motivated riots going on in Peoria, they are enabled by inept local government officials and a complicit press. Ultimately incidents like this one will be video recorded and posted on the internet so that the press and city officials will be unable to deny them.
We're in far more trouble than most folks think. Sadly, most folks don't even know the question, let alone the answer.

Councilwoman Barbara Van Auken is a liberal Democrat. Based on earlier comments made on local blogs, Paul Wilkinson is a conservative Republican. Just sayin...

Outcry? Hell some of them would have been shot on the spot by the swat team that showed up in minutes.
