FORT WORTH, Texas -- Texas could soon be in a position to turn the lights off on a federal plan to phase out certain light bulbs.
State lawmakers have passed a bill that allows Texans to skirt federal efforts to promote more efficient light bulbs, which ultimately pushes the swirled, compact fluorescent bulbs over the 100-watt incandescent bulbs many grew up with.

Ping.
I wonder if bulb manufacturers are privy to the memo?
Texas, leading the way to freedom, once again.
I heard this on the radio this morning. I believe they said that the bulbs will be produced in Texas.
Maybe that the benefactor will be offshore mfgrs.
What gives the federal government the right to dictate what kind of light bulbs we use? Can’t believe I am even asking the question about the federal government and light bulbs!
Light bulbs today! Low flow toilets tomorrow! We need to proudly raise the “Come and Take It” flag again.
Skirting federal law by limiting production and purchase to within Texas boundaries also means more factories and jobs.
What gives the federal government the right to dictate
Right or no right they do it regularily with regards to things in our everyday life. Much of what each of us do daily is regulated by some form of gov’t intervention.
I predict a black market in incandescent light bulbs! I've been stockpiling them for my own use...
go Texas....
If people want to waste money and energy and natural resources, I say let them. Let the market decide.
I have replaced “most” of my bulbs with the energy saving ones. In some cases I don’t want to wait for them to warm up. In most cases I want to save money and energy so you guys can waste it on incandescent bulbs.
I wonder which politically-connected individual will get the first light bulb factory contract?
And we sheeple just go along with it. Can we sue the federal government for interfering with our right to privacy? If it isn’t the government’s business if I kill my unborn baby, how is it their business what kind of light bulb I use?
Do you have any good experience with a particular brand of lightbulb regarding performance and longevity?
If I am going to stockup - I would rather buy what will last.
What many people tend to forget is the amount of heat that they give off in the winter. Of course, in Texas, it is like having a little space heater working in the summer.
They are harmful to children and other living things.
Any truth to the rumor that the feds want to tell us what brand of toilet paper we can use?
The only person I have ever heard wanting to regulate toilet paper was the singer Sheryl Crowe. Just like with my guns, “they will have to pry my two-ply out of my cold, dead fingers.”
