Sarah Palin emails: Palin stood with Democrats over oil profits tax, pressed GOP
Los Angeles Times ^ | June 11, 2011 | Kim Murphy

"Sarah Palin was presiding over a legislature in open warfare in 2007 over what would become her singular lawmaking legacy - a substantial boost in the petroleum profits tax that would force oil companies to share billions of dollars more of their profits with the state.

Palin had initially proposed a modest hike, coupled with a crucial new "progressivity" component that jacked up the rate when oil prices rose above normal market levels. But her Democratic allies in the Legislature saw the chance to do more and raised it to 25%, with Palin's enthusiastic support."

So why don't you explain to everyone why that is a bad thing from a conservative perspective?

My comment had nothing to do with the substance of the posted article. Instead I was merely agreeing with the poster regarding the increasingly cannibalistic tendency of those who over-react when someone criticizes their sainted candidate. For the record, I like Sarah Palin; I have contributed to her PAC and I will vote for her if she is the Republican candidate. I am just sick and tired of people mistreating those who might question some little thing about her positions. A question should open up an opportunity for dialogue, not be an occasion for personal attack.

Why is the Governor’s action a negative? Do you understand that she was doing her job as required by Alaska’s Constitution?
Tell me, what did she do wrong here? I guess upholding the law is wrong in your PDS riddled brain.

AK is a unique state when compared to the others with regards to land holdings and mineral rights. The Fed owns somewhere around 65% of the land, the state and other entities such as the natives own the remainder. Very little land is privately held/owned and I believe in those instances the state still retains the subsurface rights.

So the Gov. and state legislature is essentially managing the subsurface income for the entire population of the state. It can be done via tax structure, some form of production sharing [royalty] with the oil companies or some other arrangement.

How would you propose that the Gov and Legislature manage the resource for the good of all involved?

I don't care, either. It's the idea that no one can ever say anything construed as negative about Palin on FR lest they be attacked and called names.

So tell me, what is negative about this article and why did you feel the need to chime in if it is not?

I never said there was anything negative. I said the OP "implied" something negative and the Protectorate will jump all over him. And, they did. And, they, including you, jumped all over me because you guys are incapable of rational thought when it comes to Palin.

What makes you think I will go away or should have gone away from FR? Palin bots are not enough of a reason.

In addition to getting more in ROYALTIES, she took away leases that the oil companies were holding but not drilling on.

This is what I keep telling libs.

Palin has a conservative point of view, but she is a pragmatist and nowhere near the “extremeist” the left tries to paint her.

I became convinced the hatred the left had for her wasn’t due to her positions, as many of them the left likes. She certainly bucked the “good ol boys” in the AK congress.

IMHO, the visceral hatred is because she dared to have and treasure a retarded child. It shows an absolute self-confidence and refusal to accept the lib dogma out there today, and scared them to death. Every woman who ever had an abortion looked at Sarah and saw someone morally superior to themselves, and hated her for it.

You’re really taking your Perry pushing pimp job to new heights aren’t you. Just like Mittbots tried to smear Reagan in order to make Mittens look better, here you come along with this no conservatives are perfect see here’s the proof (trumped up of course). The next step in your pimp job will be to say, I know Perry is an amnesty lover but no conservative is perfect, not even Sarah Palin.

I’m so tired of you RINO pimps I could puke. Every election it’s the same lame nonsense.

But if this article would be about another R governor, FReepers would be jumping all over him/her, as “unacceptable RINO

FALSE. What that governor would be called is a Good Steward. The oil in Alaska belongs to the state of Alaska. A good governor would attempt to do exactly what Sarah Palin did, ie., get the best price for that oil that she could from the companies that were given the leases to extract it.

She was acting as the CEO of the state's business and she did a hell of a job. She secured the best contract that she could for the people of her state. What more could you expect? That she give the oil to the drilling companies because they contributed to her campaign? That is the crony capitalism method. Palin was no crony capitalist. She got down and dirty with the CEOs of the major oil companies and negotiated the best contract that anyone could have.

A question should open up an opportunity for dialogue,

It HAS opened up dialog - but the 'question', which you continue to ignore, is why does someone, who purports to be a conservative, post a deliberately misleading article about ANTONE on FR?

And after numerous posts informing and proving to the person who posted the threat of the inaccuracy of the story - and to posters like you, it's obvious you either knew in the beginning that it's untrue and don't care, or even after you have been apprised of the facts, you don't care. By posters continuing to ignore that the piece is inaccurate, Freepers are, understandably, suspicious of their motives.

That's a dishonestly that Freepers object too.

“She was acting as the CEO of the state’s”

Nothing personal.

But that kind of talk always creeps me out.

I certainly do NOT want any gov’t employee having the authority over me that a CEO, rightly, has over his/her employees.

That analogy ALWAYS bugs me.
