House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Rep. Steve Israel, the chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, are calling for an investigation into Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.) over the series of sexually explicit conservations and lewd photos he exchanged with a half-dozen women during the last several years.
I am deeply disappointed and saddened about this situation; for Anthonys wife, Huma, his family, his staff and his constituents, Pelosi said in a statement released on Monday night.
I am calling for an Ethics Committee investigation to determine whether any official resources were used or any other violation of House rules occurred.
Israel added: Congressman Anthony Weiner engaged in a deep personal failure and inappropriate behavior that embarrassed himself, his family, and the House. Ultimately, Anthony and his constituents will make a judgment about his future .
To remove all remaining doubt about this situation, I agree with Leader Pelosis request that the House Ethics Committee use its authority to begin an investigation.
The calls by Pelosi and Israel for an ethics investigation dramatically raise the political stakes for Weiner. While he stated repeatedly during an emotional press conference on Monday that he had broken no laws nor violated House ethics rules during his interaction with the women, a probe by the House Ethics Committee could find differently.
And it also could provide Pelosi and other Democratic leaders with political cover to call on Weiner to step down. So far, none of his Democratic colleagues have called on him to give up the seat that he first won in 1998.
I am deeply regretting what I have done, and I am not resigning, the New York Democrat told reporters on Monday afternoon. I am deeply sorry for the pain this has caused Huma, my wife, and my family.
I absolutely agree he should resign. I still suspect Pelosi though. Sometimes it is just a “show” and they try to manipulate you into thinking what they want you to think. For example, there will be people (not FR’s but other people) who keep a thumbs up to Pelosi for having integrity.
Savage thinks Pelosi talked to Weiner, told him to tell the truth to the media, and not two hours later calls for an investigation. He needed to be “eliminated” politically speaking.
Hey Nan this is your culture of corruption right here... most likely she is mad because Weiner didn’t send any photos her way.... ewwwww......
But such a move is extremely dangerous when the House is controlled by the other party. She won’t be able to control the outcome of the investigation.
Pot meet Kettle
No, this will keep the wraps on the scandal for years - as they “investigate” and inhibit any other investigation. That is their way.
Let me save them the trouble of investigating - Weiner has no ethics.
Dude! Or Dudess, I can’t tell! You summed her up. But this isn’t a matter of ethics so much as common decency, lying and ridicule. Most of all his abysmal judgment.
Pelosi is only upset because she now knows who’s been tweeting her.
Now she has to find someone else to talk dirty to her.
Except that the GOP controls the House now, and hence the Ethics Committee.
Pelosi drove Mark Foley out of office, not because he sent sexually suggestive texts to House pages, but because he was a closet gay, and Pelosi wanted to fill the Republicans with disgust in order to keep them home during the 2006 elections.
What Weiner did is way worse than what Mark Foley did, but Weiner is refusing to resign because that's what Democrats do.

That Huma was not by his side was very telling. Silda and that NJ gov jackass’s wife were both by their sides. Methinks Hillary told her to lay low to avoid being associated with him.
I see her leaving him at least temporarily- esp if the underage girl’s posts surface.
And having phone sex or internet sex or relationships IS CHEATING. (just in case anyone is wondering.)
ANNND...Weiner goes under the bus. That’s GOTTA hurt.
Which one?
Was wondering what that big bump and the little bump was.
>> Could this just be for appearance sake?
Yathink?
Well, methinks so too. Damage control and whitewash; nothing more is intended. 100% politics, completely devoid of character.
As usual with the ‘rats.
What happened to Rangel? Nothing. Maxine Waters has been under investigation for over a year. She’s literally too dumb to know she did anything wrong. Where could this possibly go?
No, He was going to be the Top Dog and run for Mayor on NYC...but this puts that into the pit. Now Fancy Nancy wants him out ASAP so they can have Andrew the Great appoint a good Demoncrat Footsoldier who wont tweet his heat and then she’ll never be beat. (Hint...a woman...)
