House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Rep. Steve Israel, the chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, are calling for an investigation into Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.) over the series of sexually explicit conservations and lewd photos he exchanged with a half-dozen women during the last several years.
I am deeply disappointed and saddened about this situation; for Anthonys wife, Huma, his family, his staff and his constituents, Pelosi said in a statement released on Monday night.
I am calling for an Ethics Committee investigation to determine whether any official resources were used or any other violation of House rules occurred.
Israel added: Congressman Anthony Weiner engaged in a deep personal failure and inappropriate behavior that embarrassed himself, his family, and the House. Ultimately, Anthony and his constituents will make a judgment about his future .
To remove all remaining doubt about this situation, I agree with Leader Pelosis request that the House Ethics Committee use its authority to begin an investigation.
The calls by Pelosi and Israel for an ethics investigation dramatically raise the political stakes for Weiner. While he stated repeatedly during an emotional press conference on Monday that he had broken no laws nor violated House ethics rules during his interaction with the women, a probe by the House Ethics Committee could find differently.
And it also could provide Pelosi and other Democratic leaders with political cover to call on Weiner to step down. So far, none of his Democratic colleagues have called on him to give up the seat that he first won in 1998.
I am deeply regretting what I have done, and I am not resigning, the New York Democrat told reporters on Monday afternoon. I am deeply sorry for the pain this has caused Huma, my wife, and my family.
Nan’s giving Weiner the old Jonah-heave.
He is “deeply sorry” for his actions. But, only since he got caught. Up until then, it was all fun and games.
The stretchmark of doom has spoken, Weiner is finished.
Pelosi is screaming for Weiner.
Everything that Pelosi says... well, let’s just say I question. Could this just be for appearance sake? Have an “investigation”, say that no ethic violations occurred and wipe your hands of it. Pelosi seems to be trying to prove she is a moral person by calling for this. Smoke and mirrors?
Even though Dems have no ethics, they know most people do and so have to give lip service to it.
BWAAAAA! He’s screwed!
Why not investigate Barney Frank at the same time?
I'm not sure. Ethics Committee investigations can drag on and on and the final action can be nothing or a minor wrap on the knuckles, Look at Charlie Rangel.
Pelousi is really p_ssed that she wasn’t on Weiners e-mail list.

What is it about the Dims always feeling so "deeply" about everything?
They sure love that word.
An investigation would just be another waste of our money. They’re not going to do anything to Weiner. Maybe give him a medal or make him a Czar. He’ll be re-elected even after lying about this issue.
This is almost impossible to believe. One of the women said she was called by him from a govt phone for phone sex that lasted 30 minutes. She knew this because when she called back she did not get him directly but some recording about congress. Its around here somewhere.
On the other hand of course Nan may just be trying to get ahold of the situation for some damage control.
Yeah, right after HELL freezes over.
Boehner should put Weiner’s conduct to a vote ASAP...
Official resources.....Bubba used the White House for cripes sakes.
Different rules apply here. Democrats don’t have to follow the same principles as Republicans. Everyone knows that, by now and it doesn’t depend upon what the definition of “is”, is!
Let’s get an investigation for ol’ Nan too.
