Female voters have turned their backs on President Obama in droves, a development that Democrats vow to reverse as Mr. Obama gears up his re-election campaign.
In 2008, women helped deliver the presidency to Mr. Obama, voting for the Democrat 56 percent to 43 percent over Sen. John McCain, Arizona Republican. Men split their votes between the two candidates almost evenly.
Black and white women turned out to vote in substantially higher numbers than their male counterparts, also boosting Mr. Obamas victory margin.
There was a startling turnaround two years later. Mr. Obama wasnt on the 2010 midterm ballot, but his agenda was. Female voters defected from the Democratic Party in historic numbers. Postelection surveys found female voters preferred Republican congressional candidates over Democrats, 49 percent to 48 percent - the first time in at least 30 years that Republican candidates received a majority of womens votes.
The explanation for that is really economic, said Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, new chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee. Women make so many of the economic decisions in households. And so the struggle economically is really borne by women, especially women who are heads of their own households.
Some Democrats say a midterm shellacking is typical for the incumbent president's party and note that Mr. Obama also lost ground with other key voting groups, including seniors and independents.
But Republicans say the reason for the defections go beyond the recession and that women in particular are reacting to Mr. Obamas overall agenda.

I dont know how she [Ms. Wasserman Schultz] keeps up with everything, Mr. Obama said at a fundraiser in Washington. But as [wife] Michelle [Obama] said, If you want something done, put a woman in charge.

I honestly don't believe that Romney will ever be the nominee but if that did happen, it'll be time to write in Sarah's name and start a third party for 2016.
I know many women that detest Barry Obama (I’m one of them). My oldest daughter is 26, none of her friends can stand him.
And more and more of the younger women are becoming vocal about pro-life issues.
DOn’t paint all females with the same brush.
He’ll blame it on the Weiner. Thanks Cincinatus’ Wife.
It is sad commentary about our culture when the primary concern of women is the ability to terminate their offspring.
Fear trumps abortion rights.
The fear of doom is real and personal. The right for an abortion is theoretical and for someone else.
Women do most of the purchasing for the family. The see the higher food, gas, utility prices directly. They see their men losing jobs or at a minimum, not getting raises. People are getting squeezed. Waiting 4 years for hope and change ain’t gonna cut it.
As a rule, women change their minds every five minutes. This story means nothing.
You are exactly right. It’s these women, who see men only as a slave who must support their lifestyle, that will vote for Obama no matter what.
There’s another cliche you forgot; we NEVER forget ANYTHING.
I don’t know what “rule” book you use but I say you’re all wet about that broad brush statement.
You’re right, I forgot to include vindictive.
I think Rush calls her Debbie Blabbermouth Schultz!
As a rule usually means “most”. If you aren’t in that group, don’t take offense.
I’ll get you for that!
Nice you made that “adjustment” Republic of Texas ‘cause as they say, “Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.” Hey, maybe that could help here. Ya think?
THAT is a BIG swing! Now whose left? Blacks and a shrinking number of Hispanics.
and he ain’t gonna win them back with “all-abortion-all-the-time”
Let me see, so instead of getting sixty percent of the female vote as he did in 2008, Obama will probably get only hmmm...about 59%. Yeah, that’s a huge dropoff. In the end, all the women who voted for him in 2008 will think “gee, if those nasty Republicans get in, sixteen year old girls might not be able to get an abortion. They might even have to notify their parents when they get pregnant. How awful.” There has been no diminution in the support for Obama from my three lib sisters. They think The Great Spreader is just wonderful. Yes, they’re all over fifty, no young adults.
