Perry is close to Palin so if Perry steps in will Sarah stay on the sidelines?

I don’t know, people were sure happy to see Trump take on Obama. Bush was way to conciliatory, always worried about being liked. I think that Obama’s refusal of federal aid with the wild fires has lit fires around the country that could make Perry very popular.

One advantage Perry has is he doesn’t come across as a stereotypical Texan. He’s not like LBJ or Dubya. He doesn’t have a deep drawl or talk like some gunfighter in a western. He’ll be easier to sell to midwestern voters than some politicians from the South and Southwest.

Perry has been Governor for 10 years. He was Lt. Governor before that. He is a major factor in building that “well oiled machine”.

Normy, I don't dislike Gov Perry. I'm willing to give him his due, where it comes to the stewardship of our state economy (although I'm frankly not sure what part he's played in keeping it strong).

For me, I think it comes down to the trust factor. I simply don't have unreserved faith in the man, after having watched him for the last six or seven years.

I just think we can do better.

If Perry had come out today swinging at the DOJ over that TSA bill I might have been able to get a little tingle down my leg but as far as I know he did not.

Actually, the LT Governor [David Dewhurst] runs the legislature. He has much more power than the governor. Perry pushed for and got voter photo ID this session. The dims successfully blocked the "No sanctuary city" bill.

Hi, not being from TX or following Perry that closely, can you briefly bring me and any others up to speed on the TSA issue? I thot TX legislature was fighting TSA with an anti-groping bill. Was Perry against this?

The LT Governor [David Dewhurst] got enough supporting votes to drop off after the TSA threatened to shut airports in Texas. The bill was pulled yesterday.

I agree that he’d be better than some of the options, but after W the country’s not gonna back a W gesture- and sound-alike.

Some TEA party members are organizing a protest at the Capitol building in Austin this weekend. I may go, if I don’t have too long a honey do list.

Let’s point out that there are lots of us aggies that don’t like perry.

I haven’t lived In Texas since college, but I was very upset about the plans for the Texas trans cooridor. I would never vote for anyone who is for that.

I’m not the only Aggie that does not like him.

I was also upset about guardisil, and I was worried that Texas would lead the way for other states to pass similar legislation. I have 14 yr old daughters so I was very concerned about that issue.

Perry is so meddles in a&m politics.

I think even Romney would be better than perry. (right now I’m interested in Herman Cain.)

>> “We don’t need to be giving George W. Bush a third term.’ We should be giving Obama a second term instead, right? <<

We will greatly be increasing Obama's chances of a second term if we nominate Rick Perry.

Indeed, you live there so you're pushing for Texas' "favorite son". That seems to be why his appeal is rather limited. Of all the conservatives on the "Draft Perry" bandwagon who insist he's "more electable" in swing states, about 90% of them live in Texas instead of the swing states he needs to win nationally.

But then when you narrow it down to just Texas freepers and ask what they think of Perry, about 50% think he'd be a great GOP nominee and the other 50% say he'd be terrible and they're adamently AGAINST running him (which is about on par for how well he does he in Texas GOP primaries).

I don't think it bodes well that you can't find any freepers in states Perry needs to win that see him as Presidential material, and in his OWN state, half the conservatives don't want him.

“I just think we can do better.”

Oh, really, who? I mean someone who can defeat Obama. Name ONE conservative who can get both the GOP nomination and defeat Obama.

No, immigration is not my sole issue. National security is, right now, my primary concern because, if we are vulnerable to attack, America could be blown away in an instant. Without secure borders, we are very vulnerable. And it sounds like Perry is really down with turning over his state to Mexico without even firing a shot. Reading the words of that speech told me all I need to know about this turkey.

The heroes of the Alamo must be spinning in their graves right now.

That speech is 10 years old, can’t find something more current? This is what he says now: http://www.ontheissues.org/governor/Rick_Perry_Immigration.htm
Like I said, he has evolved on the issue. Perry is not even a declared candidate, so it is kind of acedemic now.

Sometime ago I read a biography of Coolidge, and by what I learned from it, he was not much like the image we have of him. He was a smart, talented. decisive politician. Of course much more talkative than the legend has it. Years ago, I saw a miniseries based on the experience of a black woman who worked in the White House during several Presidrential terms. Her favorites were the Coolidges and the Roosevelts, for very different reasons. Grace Coolidge was apparently very much like Laura Bush. Just a nice person and totally without racial or class bigotry. A scene I remember —can’t remember the actor’s name but he was in” St. Elsewhere. had him up in the attic in the servants’ quarter because there was a bad leak in the roof (the White House was always undermaintained). They are totally shocked when the President shows up, alone and in person to take a look. He actually tries to do somrthing about the leak.see how bad it is and says he will get someone up to fix the problem. It’sjust like it was his own house in New England. Totally unpretentious man. It’s substantially true, and because of this story and others I have read, he is one of my favorite guys. In many respects he was like Harry Truman, even though his politics were quite different. Including his likely for dapper clothes. Speaking of, I am assured by someone who met him in n1948 that Harry Truman was personally not the little bantam rooster that he played on television, but a very soft-spoken courtly man, and of course, impeccably dressed.

If Perry and his record are not Presidential material, then absolutely nothing is.

When did Rick go to prep school and Yale? Jeb. had a more Texas upbringing, but HW made sure that W., the eldest, got a proper patrician education rarther than sending him to inferior schools like UT and A&M.
