For First Time, Majority of Americans Support Gay Marriage

A recent Gallup poll shows 53 percent of Americans support making gay marriage legal, Reuters reports.
The poll shows a significant change in mood on the issue from a year ago, when an equal majority opposed same-sex matrimony.
The latest Gallup findings, Reuters reports, are in line with two earlier national polls this spring that show support for legally recognized gay marriage has gained a newfound majority among Americans.
According to Gallup, Democrats and political independents accounted for the entire shift in its survey compared to last year, when only 44 percent of all respondents favored gay marriage, while 53 percent were opposed.
The percentage of Republicans favoring same-sex matrimony held steady at 28 percent.
While same-sex marriage remains a highly controversial issue, homosexual couples have won the right to legally wed in five states Massachusetts, Connecticut, Vermont, New Hampshire and Iowa. The District of Columbia has also approved same-sex marriage.
"The trend toward marriage equality is undeniable -- and irreversible," Joe Solmonese, president of the gay rights group Human Rights Campaign, said in a statement.
Maggie Gallagher, chairman of the National Organization for Marriage, said the poll shows her fellow opponents of gay matrimony have been "shamed" into silence.
Twenty-nine states have adopted constitutional amendments restricting marriage as between a man and a woman, and 12 other states have passed laws to that effect, according to the Human Rights Campaign.

So a majority of people support making legal something that could not possibly exist?
To: gleeaikin
If 70% of the young cohort favor gay marriage, and if 70% of the young cohirt are Democrats, then Republicans and Conservatives are doomed in the long run. That's what concerns me. Having had 3 teenagers at home, I know much of that generation doesn't see anything wrong with it, people should be able to marry who they want, all that BS.
I'm sure the Marxist government schools don't help.

I simply do not believe that. Even if it is found that a majority supports same sex marriage, I will NEVER approve of it nor accept it. God says it’s an abomination to Him. That settles it. Period.

Ok. People are no longer allowed to live together UNLESS they are married. This inclues heterosexuals, homosexuals and whatever other combinations might crop up.”
You know, that’s actually a good thought. It’s also correct according to religion, too, as a matter of fact.

I did feel that way for a while. But the answer that I have found is that, simply letting something go on doesn’t end the politic. The sad part about a lot of politics, of which the gay agenda is one out of the whole, is about being divisive to the rest of society, dwelling on the past, and not truly forgiving in the sense that one should move on, and get a life. This is not just someone who practices homosexuality, this is everybody. I could dwell on the fact that women on Earth could never like me, or that I’m simply unacceptable to society, or that people should flat out pity me, but thankfully I don’t, because life would be miserable if I did. In good perspective the one thing that perhaps factored the most into being happy was recognizing all the ways that life is good for me. I mean, I can drive a car, while some can never drive one in life, I don’t have serious food allergies, at least that I know of yet, I haven’t gotten cancer, etc. I am not saying this in the slightest to downplay anyone else, but what I am saying is that regardless of how genuinely unfortunate life appears for me, I can always list what is great and worthwhile in my own life.
The sad part, and what makes life so miserable for so many people is that they don’t seem to be doing this. Whenever I hear someone say that they feel like a second-class citizen when they have servants in their house, their own vehicle, or some successful arts career, I pretty much think: Wow, people like this seem to be a good part of the explanation why there is so much unhappiness where there is so much wealth compared to the rest of the world.
I feel that politics is about the same. I mean, for numerous political causes, I have to say: cry me a river. Someone who does better than me wants to say how oppressed they are, when I have to help people who are epileptic, mentally disabled, etc., who are actually happy about their lives, despite the fact that they don’t get what so much of us take for granted? Seeing so much of this attitude is pretty disturbing to me. And it bothers me so much more that plenty of people don’t appear to recognize some of the truly suffering individuals in today’s society nowadays.

"...support for legally recognized gay marriage has gained a newfound majority among Americans."
This issue has failed to win, every time a vote has been put to the people. There's no "newfound majority of support" for this anywhere in America.
Fox is lying.

I don't believe it. Nope. Every state, even California, where the actual citizens are allowed to vote on "gay marriage", they have said "NO!!!!!"

It’s clear that all media and all pollsters are lying leftists, to one degree or another. A very high degree. The chasm between “regular normal people who value morality and personal responsibility” and “leftist scum” is getting wider and deeper day by day.

My conclusion, more independents have changed their mind.
A little OT, but I always thought that many independents tend to be wish/washy and go where the wind blows. They are so indecisive and that is what really bothers me about them. You never really know where they stand and it seems they cannot make decisions. I'd rather see somebody either be for or against something based on their convictions than be able to be bent anyway as the wind blows. Whether you are for or against same sex marriage, I have more respect for you, at least you made a decision instead of wandering in circles. Sometimes making a decision and going through with it, right or wrong is better then just sitting there and doing nothing.

There is a debate on whether homosexuals are born or made. I tend to believe in both, but I'll focus on the "made ones." I often wonder if many homosexuals end up that way because they want to feel loved by a female companion but for whatever reasons, they cannot get any woman to go out with them and so on. People want to be loved. Maybe because of that, since nature abhores a vacuum, they look for love somewhere else, even from other males who became homosexual for the same reasons or were born that way and the rest is history. There are other sources for love like a pet for example but some may not be satisfied so they take this route.
I sometimes wonder if this is a factor in the reasons why some choose homosexuality.

You can tell when elections are rolling around, the bogus polls on everything start showing up to try and sway the sheep into going along with the fascist agenda. Will the next “shift” in public opinion be that “most people” are now in favor of Obamacare or that “most people” now think that having unionized government employees is a great idea? Unions have the bucks, but Obamacare is the hot button issue, so which will be the first to be the target of fake fascist polls?

I am not an American, but if I were I'd say - This is America! People are free to do what they want here! The f*ggots are all adults. Why do you want to deny them the freedom that America was built on? The faggots already have the very same rights that mentally normal people do. A faggot can marry any person of the opposite sex who will have them. Why do they need special rights?
Marriage has always been a woman married to one man. And it will always be that.
