Christian doomsday prophet Harold Camping looks likely to be less than rapturous after his prediction that the world would end on Saturday failed to materialise.
The 89-year-old Californian preacher had prophesied that the Rapture would begin at 6pm in each of the world's time zones, with those "saved" by Jesus ascending to heaven and the non-believers being wiped out by an earthquake rolling from city to city across the planet.
But as the deadline for the Apocalpyse passed in the Pacific islands, New Zealand and Australia, it became apparent that Camping's prediction of the end of the world was to end not with a bang but with a whimper.
Only on Twitter did the supposed armageddon sweep the world, with users expressing their mock disappointment at the lack of dead people rising from their graves.
New Zealander Daniel Boerman tweeted: "I'm from New Zealand, it is 6:06PM, the world has NOT ended. No earthquakes here, all waiting for the rapture can relax for now. #Rapture"
In Australia, Jon Gall of Melbourne was unimpressed by the lack of fire and brimstone. He tweeted: "#Rapture time here in Melbourne. A rather quiet sort of rapture if you ask me.
"Well we have had the #Rapture going for 50 minutes now. So far it hasn't interrupted my fish & chips and glass of stout."
In Brisbane, KillaJeules, was similarly disappointed by the lack of a Hollywood blockbuster ending: "So it's 6:37pm here in Brisbane, Australia. No earthquakes. No beaming up of Christians. No zombie apocalypse. No surprises haha."
Camping, a retired civil engineer, has built a multimillion-dollar, non-profit ministry based on his apocalyptic predictions. He previously predicted that the world would end in 1994.

It should go without saying, but the media was just bringing an undue amount of focus on this kook in an attempt to paint all Bible believers as such. How about a single report of what ALL Scientologists believe in, since most Americans still don’t even actually know.

I’ve been ignoring all this hullabaloo since it seems pretty clear that Jesus said we don’t know the date and time, to paraphrase.
Do most Christians believe in the concept of Rapture? I thought I’ve read in the past that Rapture isn’t described in the Bible. Looks like Bible study is in my future.
Maybe he meant the rupture so people would use care when lifting heavy things.
...I feel sorry for Camping spending all that money.....but he may have done some good...
..lots of folks might have had second thoughts about their souls and where they will spend eternity....if so, the money was well spent....
..besides, it's not 6pm in America yet.....if God chose this day, it could yet happen.....at any second!
After he sucked up all of the fool’s millions then a doing a disappearing act may not be unexpected.
The Word says no man knows the day or hour, not even the angels in Heaven know. But I rest assured by His Word that it WILL happen. It will be a world-wide cataclysmic event and there will be no denying what and who He is when it does. People have been trying to predict this event for a long time now and are just sensationalizing. Just like in Noah’s day, folks became numb and tired of hearing it. You can only do that “warning” thingy so many times and then you get: “Yeah, yeah, we’ve all heard it before...” along with a bunch of mockery...until the rain drops started falling and then it was too late. Even so, Lord Jesus come quickly!
No. It is a novelty invented in the 1800s.
No zombies to shoot??? Wait until election day, there were 53 million zombies in 2008.
I haven’t been following this thing very closely, but I understand the fun & games were to start here at 6:00 p.m.
That would’ve really cheesed me off, because the races at our local dirt track start at 6:30.
Our field of drivers, and spectators have been pretty sparse all season because of the lousy economy / weather.
It would’ve been even worse if some of them... well, you know.
The Rapture occurred on schedule. Nobody made the cut.

They have great studies (including on the Rapture) that are MP3 downloads.
A really easy fast way to do Bible studies.
A rolling Rapture. But how would have God dealt with Block Island and Indiana that don’t recognize Daylight Savings Time?
The Lost Commandment: “Lift with the legs, not with the back.”
Perhaps it’s just that we ALL got “left behind”.
Reminds me of the Jim Jones crap, only no mass suicides.
Bible prophecy has not been fulfilled yet.
And only GOD knows when He will sound the Trump calling the Bride (Rapture). Not even JESUS knows the hour or day that order will be given.
And this kook thinks he knows before God has decided it’s time?
And their will be no time zones involved, just a catching away of the Bride of Christ, in the twinkling of a eye when the Trump is sounded.
All those not Christian will remain to endure 7 years of h on earth, before they are called to be judged.
That is my understanding of it.
Right on target. To much prophecy still to be fulfilled.
The Bible says there will be many false prophets. This is just 1 of many to come.
Dress rehearsal ? You wore a dress when ya thought it was the end ?
Kinky.... Telling but none the less kinky....:o)
