Folks, it appears that the Republican Party has imploded with respect to the 2012 elections.

Romney...is...well, the father of Romneycare, the predecessor of Obamacare.

Palin shilled for McCain and has a dubious stance on amnesty.

Paul has made a fool out of himself by suggesting that the U.S. shouldn’t have assassinated Osama.

Gingrich supports Romneycare and cap-and-tax.

DeMint refuses to back away from Romney.

Shall I continue?

I mean, seriously, the field of Republican candidates is so far nothing more than a sick joke, and unless a dark horse (and I’m not talking about Bachmann here) emerges, I think we’re looking at four more years of Obama, largely thanks to Republican incompetence and ineptitude.

Surely you aren't still harping on the McCain nonsense. Any conservative (and others) see /understand her loyalty. So you still harping on it says more about who/what you are then who/what SARAH is.

And Newt moves into the "completely unacceptable" category. He must really be a tone-deaf moron.

"Palin shilled for McCain and has a dubious stance on amnesty."

So if I single you out among all the 330 million people who live in this country to be my running mate and potentially be the Vice President of the United States, you would show your loyalty by back-stabbing me two years later when I want to run for re-election to my senate seat? Thanks for the warning.

Sadly, I agree! What about Gov. Walker from WI?

Yeah, Paultard. Your guy has imploded repeatedly over the years (including recently with his statement that he would not have approved the bin Laden raid), but he isn’t on your list above. Wonder why?

Herman Cain, after he admits that he was having a major brain fart in '08 when he supported Romney.

I disagree. The last thing we need is a repeat of the last election when there were too many conservatives and liberals coalesced around McCain. In this election we have several liberals, and I hope that conservatives coalesce around Sarah Palin, a true conservative who is the best at consistently enunciate Reagan’s conservative principles. She has defeated Obama’s talking points over and over, and her simple sound bites (such as “death panels”) have cut through the media clutter and taken over the culture. She is also fearless, and in the mode of Ronald Reagan, a “happy warrior”.

Yeah, and you pushed for an AZ senate candidate in 2010 who compared the border fence to the Berlin Wall.

So by your own standards, you are no conservative, Rabs.

This is a fun game. Too bad it's a circular firing squad when played your way, Rabs.

I don't like Newt at all but I saw some of this interview and it was the moderator that called Newt's position a ‘personal mandate’ to make it sound like Obama-care. Newt's position was that the individual could post bonds to be used for their needed emergency care, then not need-to buy health insurance to cover it. This is much like the auto insurance.

As long as Republicans support mandating hospitals provide ‘free’ care to the uninsured that have no assets or visible income, then some sort of guarantee that the individual will pay for it is needed. But it is only needed for the free emergency care that the federal government mandates on hospitals, not the over-bloated Romney or Obama-care. In fact there is a much bigger problem than this : medicaid for nursing homes, and it will only get worse.

You dont see the House Republicans proposing lifting that mandates on hospitals do you? It's not even a debate.

I agree completely. Republicans do best when in the complete minority and can win just opposing bills.

A real Republican candidate would be working with House Republicans to propose and SELL bills that put Obama on the defensive, and split him from his base. No, the Ryan plan does the opposite, even he is running from it now. Republican candidates that repudiate 'house' (conservative) proposals are just the same old. They will just propose more spending.

To take broad liberties with Winston Churchill’s quote...

When it comes to the Republican party, “Never have so many owed so little to a party with so much to work with.”

You’ve got a traitor at the helm, and you can’t find the gumption to appeal to your base enough to take him down? What the hell is going on here?

For years people have been saying the Republican party might just as well be a wing of the Democrat party, and low and behold the Republican presidential contenders for 2012 are proving them right.

Absolutely disgusting!

If anything, the Republican party seems convinced it must move even further Left to gain appeal. I’ve never been so disgusted with the Republican party. If they can’t pull their heads out enough to get their act together under a guy like this, of what use are they to us?

As Ronald Reagan said in reference to the Democrat party, “I didn’t leave it. It left me.”

As for the Republican party and me, ditto to the X.

When McCain picked Palin for VP, we were thrilled to have at least one good candidate on our ticket. But in hindsight, it's a shame that he offered her the position. When he offered it, she had to accept - and when she accepted, she had to support John McCain.
Had she not been tapped for VP, she could have stayed in the governorship of Alaska, and retained her high approval rating there. From there, she could have hit Iowa in 2011 like a thunderbolt from the blue.

I said on another thread that the field of "likely" 2012 candidates is considerably less inspiring than the 2008 field (which wasn't very inspiring to begin with) and I stand by that. I wouldn't go as far to say Obama is guranteed re-election with the current crop of hopefuls, but we certainly need better options. Right now, I can find no candidate I want to rally around.

I would agree that Mitch Daniels, Tim Pawlenty, Michele Bachmann, and Herman Cain make my "acceptable" list (I could stomach them as our nominee). But Field said it said, when we look at those four we're pretty much debating over who the "best mediocre" candidate. Even Herman Cain, 2012's answer to 2008's Duncan Hunter (an articulate solid principled conservative) is no where near on the level of Hunter, who was a decorated Vietnam vet, proven winner in a Democrat district, and long-time established conservative official who served as chairman of the armed services committee.

Let's face it, our likely choices suck thus far. I pray there's a surprising dark horse entry that no one is talking about. Carcieri, Rounds, and Heineman are intriguing "what if?" candidates. I doubt Carcieri could ultimately carry Rhode Island, but at least I think he would make this normally safe Democrat state competative for the GOP and force the Dems to spend money there. But whether those four electoral votes will matter much remains to be seen.
