The US government is handing out a record number of food stamps, which is one more statistic among many that suggests the recession is far from over for the average American. According to US government data compiled by the WSJ, 44 million Americans, or 14 percent of the total US population, is on food stamps.

The two states that receive the most food stamps have 20 percent of their population on it and 43 states have over 10 percent of their populations receiving it.

Moreover, the number of people receiving food stamps increased for every state compared to last year. In New Jersey, it jumped 23 percent.

Which state has the least percentage of people receiving food stamps? Interestingly, it’s Wyoming, which also happens to be one of the few states with a budget surplus and among the states with below 10 percent unemployment rates.

Oregon? No New York? That’s pretty startling.

Tennessee is #8 and I bet the majority of those who use Food Stamps are located in and around Memphis.

I can not believe those states give more than PA. Estelle Richman inundated the airwaves for eight years to tell people you might qualify for food stamps even if you don’t think so. Ed Rendell told DPW to “ qualify, don’t verify” welfare appliers. Corbett has now changed the game and the leeches (PSEA, AFSCME, etc.) are screaming. Public Welfare is scheduled for a HUGE hit in it’s budget.

I bet the reporter got in trouble for that, I don't see his/her/name on the piece.

Never, ever mention we are still in a recession. Obama and your Liberal friends won't like that.

Instead, it's just "an unexpected statistic is the glorious Obama Recovery"

Just give me the list. I don’t need to click a 1000 times to get all the info.

Maybe I had too much coffee this morning. I’m not usually like this.

Next to Mississippi, the state with the largest,by percentage,African American population is South Carolina.
Number Two on the list.
The next on the lists are union states with Democrat governments.
SC is so funny, without African Americans there would be no state Democrat party. Our blacks vote for blacks every time but the Democrats ignore them because our majority whites vote GOP (sans the usual few self-loathing white liberal rubberheads).
Sherman needs to come back and burn some plantations again and give these people freedom once more.

I wonder why Wyoming has a budget surplus and the lowest unemployment? What are they doing right that the other states are doing wrong?

To: Just A Nobody

Dear Nobody: Thank you, thank you for posting the whole list in one place. I made up my mind to abandon those pages that make you click a new page to see each entry in a top-10 list. So, thanks again.

I am impressed that AZ is not on there, given that we have several huge Indian reservations where almost the entire tribes are on Food Stamps and other transfers.

I fully understand gov’t food for stop-gap occasions; but to have permanent underclasses like this is very destructive. I think we need to go back to commodities on trucks where people go stand in line to get beans, rice, cheese, flour, oil, hamburger, etc. That would keep people from starving, and would keep them busy cooking. I am tired of trying to giving dignity and legitimacy to permanent poverty. And I am in a poverty-fighting ministry.
