Oh my: Release of Obama birth certificate cuts number of Birthers in half

The good news: It’s a heavy blow to the Trump boomlet. The bad news: … none that I can think of, really.

Actually, the bad news is that I lose a vein of easy content to blog. Help me, viral videos, you’re my only hope.

More crosstabs from WaPo. The “Honolulu/Hawaii” column is the big one, obviously:

This poll was conducted before Obama’s announcement of the Bin Laden killing, in case you’re inclined to attribute the huge bounce to goodwill rather than evidence. Needless to say, the key lines are the ones for Republicans and Conservative Republicans; in both groups, the number of Birthers was cut by more than half after the birth certificate revelation. (In fact, it was likely deeper than that. Birtherism had been spiking in the last few weeks since Trump mainstreamed the issue, so it was probably higher than the April 2010 numbers shown here.) I argued a few weeks ago that, contrary to big media’s received wisdom, Birthers aren’t a homogeneous group but rather a mix of hardcore and softcore believers, the latter of which were simply misinformed because they weren’t following the issue closely. These numbers bear that out. Which, for Chris Matthews, means … what? Republicans are racist, but maybe not quite as racist as he thought? What happens to the narrative?

Some people were hassling me in Headlines over this poll because I suggested yesterday in the post about the Bin Laden photos that evidence doesn’t convince skeptics anymore. Fair enough; at the very least, I should have qualified that by specifying that I meant skeptics with an agenda. But give the Birther issue time. I’ll be mighty keen to see if the numbers still look like this in six months — which, theoretically, they should — or if they start to creep back up as discontent with Obama’s policies rises and/or hardcore Birthers regroup and start challenging the long-form birth certificate. Trump had better hope so. Somehow, I don’t see the “trade war with China” platform carrying him to the nomination.

I would like to see it, if nobody else does.

Cordially,

I'll reply in private. That way I won't have to run in a dozen different directions trying to answer everbody's questions. I'll only have to concentrate on answering yours.

Keep on buying into the liberal mantra of where the scumbag was born - when most are concerned with the how.

As far as I can tell, based on his own admissions - he was born to a couple that could not grant him full-on ‘natural born’ citizenship, as his putative father was not a citizen, or even a resident immigrant, but an alien on a student visa. His mother did not legally at his birth meet the judicial requirements to convey her citizenship mantle. Ergo he is not a valid US citizen of any description so far.

His second ‘birth certificate’ is as fraudulent as the first.

But really - your “I know who is the REAL father” is as silly as asking for the “REAL” birth certificate instead of the short form - as a matter of law - it doesn’t matter.

Maybe not legally, but do you really think it doesn't matter politically?

If we let go of dealing with the lawlessness that has surrounded this issue we may as well piss on this country and the rule of law.

Nonsense. Nixon knew full well he was cheated in the 1960 election. Mayor Daley robbed him in broad daylight, and tipped the election to Kennedy. Knowing that trying to prove it would be harmful to the country, Nixon took a bow, and returned to fight another day.

You can't make every issue the hill you're willing to die on. If Obama's lack of transparency in the situation of his birth is worth pulling the plug on the republic, then grab your rifle and head for the hills. I suppose someone has to be first.

America has been cheated worse than by the likes of Obama. The abuses of the Commerce Clause alone have spanned decades and untold injustices. My state is top three in unconstitutional gun laws. Our financial situation threatens to crash the nation into insolvency imminently. The birth certificate ... is the proverbial deck chair on the Titanic.

I understand that you can't run a good cruise liner if you don't pay attention to every detail, and that I'm a bad cruise line crewmember for saying this, but the fact of the matter is, resolving an argument over the proper alignment of the deck chairs doesn't fix the fact that the ship is rapidly sinking. It's a desperate focus of people that have given up the ship, to focus on a part of the deck they think they can still affect.

If this is the straw that's broken your camel's back, well, straws add up. It's still just a straw among many. We battle over different corners of the Constitution against the left non-stop. We win some, we lose some. We've lost much bigger fights than this and kept going. It's no time to quit now, but it's never a bad idea to pick battles we can win.

The Constitution is not a mere technicality. Obama’s a lousy president, but that’s not the issue. As a matter of fact, I would consider that to be the technicality. Protecting our Constitutional government is what really matters.

An interesting theory, but impossible to prove. As the old saying goes, fatherhood is opinion, motherhood is fact. Everyone thinks they 'know full well' who their father is, but this is territory most Americans aren't going to be interested in traversing. Especially some mothers. ;-)

I wouldn't be so sure. I think i've got a pretty good shot at proving it. Certainly with a preponderance of the evidence, and I can assert that it CAN be proven with absolute certainty.

I just put up a post on my blog showing that the “white copy” that was distributed to the media was not taken directly from the certified copy but from a print-out - which specifically introduces a step to allow manipulation also. That post is at http://butterdezillion.wordpress.com/2011/05/06/white-copy-not-directly-from-certified-copy/

I’d post it here but I need to get out of the house and clear my mind. This stuff is bugging me too much. I need to go dig in some real, clean, honest dirt. Plant some bulbs. Sing. Pray.

No, proving that someone other than Obama Sr. was the father wouldn't damage 0bama politically.

That is even if you could prove it, rather than just looking like a wild eyed conspiracy theorist for bringing it up.

Are you going to subpoena the DNA of the President and any surviving relations of Franklin Marshall Davis in a court proceedings to “prove” that the DNA father of 0bama isn't who his mother said it was?

And even if you could do so - what do you think that is really going to accomplish - best case scenario?

Nevermind that the windmill knocked you off your horse and made you look like a fool! Couch that lance and charge again from a different angle - THIS time it should work out alright!

If mockery and derision is your response, I see no point in worrying about what you think.

I think that figuring out the truth is a worthwhile endeavor, and worrying about the consequences of putting the truth on the table is not.

Ridicule is the proper social response to those acting ridiculous.

In science or philosophy you get points for trying to figure out the truth. In politics you get points for WINNING ELECTIONS.

Finding out the “truth”, that 0bamas ‘real’ father was a U.S. citizen, even if it was a total slam dunk; accomplishes nothing towards winning elections.

But maybe that windmill REALLY IS a giant! Maybe slaying it will be a great boon for society! Or you will just damage yourself, your horse, your reputation - and possibly a perfectly fine windmill.

“It is it amazing the deafening silence coming from Kapiolani Hospital?”

Haha. Are they still hiding that fraudulent fundraising letter?

Kapiolani Hospital it time to celebrate. Dear Reader has embraced your maternity ward as his birth cradle.

Chop, chop get moving on those “Dear Reader was born here” memorial plaques.

Where’s the National Park service in this fiasco?

So....Even if the hospital claims than no one has a right to access Stanley Ann's records, Obama has a clear right to release **his** own! It is it amazing the deafening silence coming from Kapiolani Hospital?

Means Obama hasn't given them permission to release, I'd guess. Or that they don't consider it significant enough to bother with any special press release. You could always call and ask if you're interested.

By all means, let us put political expediency ahead of truth. Silly me. Why did I ever think anything other than power was important?

What use has the world for Honest men?

This isn’t about a birth certificate. This is about the media, government, law enforcement, and courts ALL turning a blind eye and/or directly breaking laws in order to allow the camel’s nose under the tent.

It is LITERALLY swallowing a camel.

I’m disappointed that you can’t see that, although I do understand what you’re saying and don’t mean to speak badly of you in any way. We certainly do have a multitude of lawless circumstances to deal with.

But until we address the root cause we will just be chopping down one musk thistle to see a thousand more spring up where that one was. Until we address the roots we will keep losing the battle. And the roots of what has made America exceptional is ACCOUNTABILITY. What this issue has shown us is that any illegal sweet-talker can come in and disable all our systems of accountability. If you disable the alarm system you can rob the bank over and over and over again, in any way you like.

The free press, law enforcement, courts, government rules and laws - are all supposed to be the alarm system that alerts us to problems and allows us to get rid of the intruder before they can rob the bank. We can tackle each individual robbery, but as long as our alarm system is non-existent we will only be robbed again, and again, and again.

That’s why the Founders concentrated so much on the infrastructure of accountability - the Constitution, the rule of law, elections, the separation of powers, the checks and balances. If the system is set up right, it will be self-correcting. But it’s not. That’s because we don’t have a free press that does its job. We don’t have law enforcement that actually enforces the laws. We don’t have courts that allow the people to “petititon the government for a redress of grievances” - instead it tells us it’s none of our business, as long as the government screws everybody equally. The system is utterly broken.

And that’s not lawn chairs on the Titanic. That is the whole bottom being blown out from underneath us. The whole principle that America is based on is that absolute power corrupts absolutely and so to create a government that protects rather than abuses the people, we have a system that empowers people to hold their government accountable to the rule of law. If we don’t have that foundation then we don’t have America. Period.

And this particular issue has exposed that EVERY aspect of accountability that the Founders built into our system has been blasted to smithereens. None of the ways we are supposed to be able to ensure the rule of law are actually working like they are supposed to.

I need to go dig in some dirt. The soil makes sense even when people don’t.

I can understand your getting discouraged. The issue has been completely buried for the time being in the OBL fiasco. Perhaps the Corsi book will give it some traction. Your efforts are much appreciated, if only by a diminishing minority.

Sorry. I have to leave now. Will check back later this evening. You don't have to trust me, and I don't care if you do or not. Weigh the evidence for yourself. Ask one of the people i've already given a link to to point you in the right direction.

Waive privacy rights on the document and allow Hawaii to release certified copies directly to everyone willing to pay $100, and have the proceeds go to a homeless shelter in Hawaii.

How does that sound to you?
