The 23-year-old native of Illinois didn't like the way Americans were celebrating the death of Osama bin Laden on Monday, and he let out his frustrations on Twitter.
"What kind of person celebrates death?" Mendenhall, who last made national headlines for fumbling in the Super Bowl and "celebrating" a little too hard with Ben Roethlisberger in the playoffs, wrote. "It's amazing how people can HATE a man they have never even heard speak. We've only heard one side ..."
That wasn't all, though, as Mendenhall expressed doubt that airplanes could have demolished the World Trade Center.
"We'll never know what really happened," Mendenhall wrote. "I just have a hard time believing a plane could take a skyscraper down demolition style."
Obviously, Mendenhall has spent at least 15 minutes watching some of the awesome 9/11 conspiracy videos on YouTube, and he's passing that off as "enlightenment."
"There is not an ignorant bone in my body," he said. "I just encourage you to [think]."

Oxy moron ping!
Ironic, this guy is going to the Jets. They will take anyone.
“The Steelers don’t put up with kooks. “
Really? And what about their QB?
He probably believes Dick Cheney made him fumble that ball.
Ben made mistakes as a young man with much success.
He is getting married this summer and settling down.
The sign kinda implies the space was once occupied in the first place. I’m not so sure...
Hey Mendenhall... good luck finding a job after your NFL “career” is over fool.
.” That wasn’t all, though, as Mendenhall expressed doubt that airplanes could have demolished the World Trade Center. “
Football players have not been known to be the smartest people in the world after the fact.
“Ben made mistakes as a young man with much success.”
Very serious mistakes. I hope you’re right that he finds a better path. But it sort of diffuses your claim that the Steelers don’t put up with kooks. They don’t put up with kooks... UNLESS the kooks are extraordinarily talented.
Either way, I do not wish good things for Mendenhall.
“Maybe Brandon doesn’t know how to use the internet.”
He’s one of the lazy people that just spout what some lefty nutcase tells him.
Dear Rashard (or whatever your real name is):
I don't like the way Muslims like yourself celebrated the death of 3000 Americans on 9/11. Go **** yourself.
I agree, but sometimes I do like watching the NFL talent. Nothing comes easy in those games. In college you might find a wide receiever w/ no one near him. Not in the NFL. That rarely happens. The players have to make plays. But yeah, College has more heart.
Like I need another reason to hate the Steelers.
Mendenhall is what is known as a 9/11 ‘truther’. This is someone who thinks 911 was an orchestrated attempt by the govt to curtail civil liberties. There was a Purdue University study that proved that the fire produced by the jet fuel did not have to reach the melting point of steel to cause the steel in the structure to fail. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nKAe4n5hGIo Here’s another article by the University of Sydney Engineering Dept. http://sydney.edu.au/engineering/civil/wtc.shtml
When did the NFL start allowing players to play without helmets?
That is IT! I have been a fan since I was old enough to watch (I am 44). CUT HIM AND CUT HIS SORRY A$$ NOW!
The Steeler Nation will not be associated with this POS!
I don't agree with his reasons, but he has a point. OBL dying should ahve been as exciting as seeing a smashed cockroach. Something a little disgusting but necessary and certainly not worth cheering like it's the freakin Super Bowl.
“Rashard” sounds kinda Muzzie...
What a tool. I always knew the Steelers were evil, but this just proves it.
Reactions to his comment can be seen by typing his name into a twitter search. To use Pitt. slang, what a jag-off
(yes we have freedom of speech but speech has consequences)
>> The problem for Mendenhall and others who do it is that you cannot get any deep thoughts across on the brief window permitted by Twitter. So no matter how bright Mendenhall is, he obviously did not understand this. He should have learned it last month with his comments comparing NFL players with slavery. Now hes in a big jackpot. The PR fallout will be tremendous, it already has. Talk show hosts are sending him thank you gifts today. He will be booed at Heinz Field, any endorsement possibilities will dry up, he might even have some trouble with teammates. While the Pirates were visiting the Navy Seals responsible for bin Ladens death in San Diego, Mendenhall spews inane stuff about whether the towers came down because the planes hit them. If Im advising Rashard Mendenhall, I have him immediately apology and how he did not get his views across well. And then do away with his Twitter account. Blog, if you must, at least if you have deep thoughts, you can express them better in that forum.
I heard Scott Van Pelt say this... “Twitter: the great illuminator of stupidity.”
