Yesterday was a sad day for Free Republic
May 3, 2011 | Huck

Posted on 05/03/2011 4:46:53 AM PDT by Huck

Yesterday should have been a glorious day around here. There should have been fireworks and celebration. There should have been somber remembrances. There should have been patriotic tributes. There should have been shared joy at the news that our guys had finally gotten Bin Laden.

Instead, when I visited the site, what I found was a lot of carping. I found people focused more on the political spin than on the great news. I found people transferring their birther mentality onto this event, talking about Obama faking this news, photoshopping information, etc. It wasn't everybody, but it was a LOT of people. It made me sick.

Yesterday Free Republic seemed like DU. It makes me wonder what the hell is going on. Are Freepers getting younger? I always assume that DU is so pathetically immature because they must be younger. Free Republic has always been a place dominated by great class, and wit, and decency. Not this time. What I saw yesterday was a pathetic embarrassment and totally unworthy of this great forum.

As some of you may know, I was in lower Manhattan on 9-11. I was just across the street from the WTC when the first plane hit. I still remember the beautiful clear blue sky that day. I remember walking in between the towers just a minute or so before 8:46am, on my normal route to work. I remember my co-workers screaming in panic when they watched from an office window as the second plane hit the south tower. I remember women crying and screaming hysterically. I remember not being able to contact my wife to tell her I was OK. I remember people jumping to their deaths. I remember seeing the north tower go down with my own eyes, hearing it with my own ears. I remember fleeing Manhattan. I remember it was a Tuesday.

I remember returning to work the following Monday, riding the ferry passed the site, noxious smoke still billowing from the wreckage. I remember armed troops on the sidewalks. I remember wearing a breathing mask inside my building because the foul odor was seeping in through the ventilation system. I remember thinking we'd really gotten kicked in the teeth. They had killed innocent people, they had traumatized our women and children, and I really wanted revenge. I hung a picture on my wall of the American eagle sharpening his talons.

It has been a long time since that day. It's hard to believe how fast time flies. Then again, if you lost your loved one, I imagine time hasn't gone so fast. I love my wife so much, I can empathize with anyone who has lost the one they love. I can't imagine how that would be, and don't want to know, but I can cry for those people because I know what it is like to find your one true love.

I'm not an Obama fan. I hate socialism. But I am so happy that Bin Laden is killed, and that we have exacted some real revenge. It's about time. The politics don't even play into it for me. I still have the little flag, now tattered, that I flew on my car antenna after 9-11. I want to take it out of storage and put it on my car. I want to see American flags on cars like we saw back then. But it's not going to happen, and partially because the normally patriotic conservatives such as the ones here on Free Republic are instead focused on the politics and the fact that a socialist Democrat was president and will get some of the credit.

I guess you all would have been pissed on D-Day too. FDR was as big a socialist as anyone. I guess VE day and VJ day would have chapped your hides, since Truman was a DEM. I don't mean to paint with a broad brush. I know it wasn't every Freeper acting this way. But when I went on the board, that was the general impression, and it was really disappointing. It should have been a great day here. Instead, I saw a lack of patriotism and a lack of class. Free Republic should be better than this. If conservatives lose their patriotism and class, then what will happen to those virtues? I hope we can get them back soon. In the meantime, thanks for reading.

Respectfully,

Huck

“Huck isn’t an old timer. He just made a FR account long ago. Check past posting history. A few dozen posts over 11 years?”

I’ve made some 12,000 posts over the last 12 years, and yet I’ve been told I’m an Army Psyops guy posting on orders from Obama.

To the conspiracy kooks, no facts matter.

It was my mistake and I already noted that. I was looking at past posts and the posts tab was on, not the comments. I was wrong.

There was a time when I was happy in the thoughts that brave men were doing things in the night that kept me safe...things I could not know about...And I was secure.

Different world now. I pay attention to the man behind the curtain, even though I am no longer young.

Could not have said it better...and "partisan politics" has nothing to do with it...as far as government is concerned...the TRUST factor(on both sides of the aisle)is gone.

On 9-11-01, after many years of BOTH parties spending/borrowing trillions of taxpayer dollars creating policies, practices and standards it was NEVER designed to be involved with, while at the same time getting in bed with despots and other criminal elements(foreign and domestic)who have no allegiance to any nation(unless power and greed are considered nations)...government FAILED at it's PRIMARY responsibility....protecting the American people...on American soil!

Killing "a" figurehead whom "most" consider the mastermind behind the 911 atrocity...10 years after the fact...in my mind does little to mitigate those failures. As far as this particular atrocity, I am more interested in knowing how/why the system broke down... especially after all the blood and treasure that has been spent over the years "supposedly" to prevent such atrocities.

No matter where the chips fall politically...people have a right to know the truth.

Maybe more importantly, the continuing of, and adding to, policies that remove freedoms from Americans in the name of..."security"...only gives further victories to the OBL's of the world...dead or alive.

Being cattle prodded at an airport while our borders are left wide open does little to make me look to the government and shout...."Woo Hoo!".

Exactly. Thank you.

Now, with a team of 40 engaged, how long will it take to comb the data and accurately build a picture of the sequence of events; account for each shot, who engaged who and it what order. With 40 separate feeds, I am sure you will agree it will take a heck of a long time. And besides, how many had helmet cams? And of those that didn't, how do you account for their shots and participation in the time-line? It isn't easy and it takes time. Again, the administration in this case is not lying, they are incompetent.

I am sure you have more time in combat and conducting after-action reviews than many of the combat vets here on FR. Therefore, I defer to your judgment and invite combat veterans, especially SOF, to chime in and tell us how easy it is to download helmet-cam videos and immediately come up with an accurate analysis/report.

Wouldn’t it be easy for OBL to prove he was alive...come out with a current paper and say nya nya nya!. That is why I think we got him...

You can bet AQ is on the lookout for a look-alike.

Amen! Osama is still winning every time a US citizen gets sexually molested or naked-scanned to travel by common carrier. It’s abusive far beyond violation of the Bill of Rights protections against search.

Every TSA agent should be seen as wearing a button saying “OSAMA LIVES!”.

When Rogesr first started doing the copy/paste thing on the elibigility threads, I chekced his posting history. Up until the day he started the c/p stuff, he posted exclusively about western trivia including westerns, and some very specific Christian theological stuff. I checked dozens and dozens of pages.

And then wham! A whole new ball game.

Janice Okubo said that they can’t reveal ANYTHING that is on a BC, when I asked if she would report to law enforcement if she knew something was a very public forgery. IOW, she is saying that they CANNOT report a forgery, even to law enforcement. I don’t buy it for a minute; I believe it is misprision of felony if they fail to report known forgery. But that’s the excuse she’s giving. So that argument totally fails.

And the HDOH itself is breaking so many laws and rules it’s not even funny. They need to do CYA just as bad as Obama does, at this point. They are falsifying records on Obama’s behalf.

Fuddy said she sent two certified copies to Obama. Obama gave photocopies to reporters including 2 images of his alleged BC - one a copy with green security cross-hatches (of which I have not seen a copy so I don’t know if it had a seal on it or not), and one a copy on white paper, having no seal. You tell me: where did that white copy come from?

In addition, there is what claims to be a photo of Obama’s “green copy”. It shows no sign of a seal anywhere. Apparently our “vigilant” media didn’t even notice or think twice about the validating mark being missing on the documents they were shown.

The only place where any sign of a very faint, indistinct seal shows up is in the PDF that Obama posted, which was scanned in a format that specifically allows manipulation. So he disclosed TWO DIFFERENT VERSIONS of supposedly the same BC, and only the manipulable one has any sign of a seal on it.

And the media didn’t even notice. I have to say, I see Jake Tapper a whole different way now than before; I can barely stand to look at him now.

We were lied to about where the birth announcement images came from. Why did “Koa” and the Prius Chat poster lie instead of actually going to the Hawaii State Library and getting a copy from the Star-Bulletin microfilm as they claimed they did? They actually got their images from somebody at the Honolulu Advertiser office. Just like Michael Rivero at Whatreallyhappened.com got his images from somebody at the Advertiser office, which is the exact same one that “Koa” and the Prius Chat poster got. Every image we had before 2010 that was clear enough for the words to actually be read came from somebody at the Honolulu Advertiser, and the Honolulu Advertiser documentably manipulated the Advertiser announcement image over time.

The discourse on FR has deteriorated from the early days.

You are right...used to be the "nasties" were few and well know.....Ash; A+bert; Eschoir(sp.?) etc.

These days I sometimes avoid a thread I think might be interesting because I feel there will be too many hateful comments.

Butter, let me ask you - YOU are the expert on Certifigate - you might know:

Did the White House issue 2 different version of Obama’s long form COLB last week? And weren’t there 2 different short form COLB’s as well back before the campaign? One issued to the Daily KOS which was quickly identified as a fake and then another shortly thereafter?

This would make a total of four “official” certificates?

Just wondering -

WC Fields — a great American too — is reputed to have said “Never give a sucker an even break.”

There’s a corollary for dealing with the arrogant con-man: “Never give a con-man a single word of good credit because he’ll use your credit in that one word to con many more.”

A man wise to the con gives Obama no credit at all.

Dubya got sucked into TARP I, that was also a con. By being conned — even if that TARP I worked out — he set us all up for the total disasters of TARP II, OBAMACARE etc.

Since those are obviously your heartfelt opinions about the posts here, then so be it, they should be respected.

However, I think some of us were merely trying to get ahead of the abject, untruthful, gratuitous efforts of Liberals and the MSM to glorify their “Dear Leader” and give him much more credit than he deserves for the operations that killed Bin Laden.

If anything, Obama and his Administration have done everything possible to thwart the policies that made this heroic operation a reality. Had enhanced interrogation, Gitmo, and diplomatic policies followed the processes Obama touted in his election campaign, the event would never have happened at all. In listening to Obama’s speech to the nation about this event, I heard, with my own ears, the preponderence of “I”s that usually dot his utterances. I also heard the phrase “all these years I have....”, that perplexed me. All what years?

George W. Bush was dragged through the mud by every MSM news jerk and Liberal talking head that exists, along with Dick Cheney and the Cabinet, for Afghanistan, interrogation techniques and policies that helped bag Bin Laden. There were many who called for their prosecution for war crimes.

So, outside of a thankyou to Obama for doing the obvious right thing when the time was right, he will get no “bump” from me. And I will continue to disparage his Socialis/Marxist agenda for America at every opportunity. Terrorists aren’t the only dangers that confront our country right now. Obama and his agenda are still among them.

I’m a Navy vet. I’m just going off what I’ve seen in documentaries and read in books, and other publications.

Number of cameras. I doubt all had them. Figure at least half did. Number of those dropped inside the compound seem to be around 24.
Point is the meat of this can be processed pretty quickly.

Now how the facts are disseminated for public consumption is a different story.

“...NO BUMP in the polls for the Zero...”

Good to hear that.

and now we get to endure the tiresome sight of Liberals walking around thumping their chests pretending to be men because their boy whacked a terrorist...gee - imagine that...finally doing the ONE THING HE’S CONSTITUTIONALLY SUPPOSED TO DO, and it’s a big deal to them...

Yet, W did it, and it’s a “war crime”.

Go figure. These people are plain nuts.

I've noticed a general decline in the overall quality of the postings over the years. You used to be able to learn a lot here, but now many of the postings are just snarky comments.

I have little sympathy with the birther business, and am disappointed that so many here seem to be caught up in it.

But I will quibble a bit about yesterday. Many of us were angry at President Obama for giving George W. Bush virtually none of the credit in bringing down al Quaeda and Bin Laden, and for coming across as if he himself had rappelled into that compound.

It was George W. Bush who implemented many of the policies that led to Sunday's success, and if Obama had any grace he would have acknowledged that. And Bush paid a price - he was savaged by the press and by the Democrats for most of his two terms, villified as a war criminal and a terrorist and a shredder of the Constitution.

Obama campaigned against Bush's anti-terror policies, yet retained virtually all of them when he himself became president. If we are offended by Obama's demeanor and hypocrisy, that does not make us less patriotic. Indeed, we were more so, I think, because we felt that a day that should have been for all Americans was made to be all about Obama.
