I remember that Bin Laden was said to have a bodyguard who would kill him if he was ever about to fall into US hands.
Maybe that's how he died because I don't think Obama said our forces actually killed him.

That seems unlikely if there was a firefight. Usually, a sniper shot would be the first (maybe the only) shot fired in a circumstance like the one described, where Osama was hiding out in a mansion. No, I suspect a small lethal special forces unit ambushed and killed everybody in a guerrilla operation.
