The House Redistricting Committee map plan (a.k.a., Solomons map) is a monumental attack that is meant to silence conservative voices in Texas for the next ten years to come.
The Solomons map eviscerates the conservatives, has nine pairings, and seven open seats. None of the House Redistricting Committee maps matches the message that conservative voters so clearly sent on Nov. 2010.
Even though Texans voted into office a supermajority of Republicans (mostly conservatives), the House Redistricting Committee map actually shapes some districts so that Democrats could more readily win rather than conservative Republicans who are in the Legislature right now.
Ironically enough, Rep. Burt Solomons (chair of the House Redistricting Committee) is a Republican appointed by Republican Speaker Joe Straus!
Please listen to this brief video in which Rep. Wayne Christian interviews Joe Nixon and his fellow attorney Trey Trainor. Nixon and Trainor are considered to be the best redistricting map experts in the entire United states and are authorities on the Voting Rights Act (VRA).
Nixon was the former Texas legislator who authored the tort reform legislation that has led to Texas being ranked #1 as the most business-friendly state in the United States.

El Paso? Ciudad Juarez North? Didn’t they look on a map before going there?
Doesn’t it always seem like the RINOS would rather make their deals with the Dems than play nice with the conservatives? What is about RINOS that makes them so treacherous toward conservatives?
I hate articles like this. The writer told me everything and showed me nothing, so I’m left with nothing to go on. If there is gerrymandering going on here, evidence needs to be presented to the reader.
Not gonna happen in Texas....sorry.
Outraged ping
Northern Italian food uses butter and cream whereas Southern Italian food uses olive oil and tomatoes. There are more Northern dishes than you can try in a lifetime.
Thanks for your post.
You're welcome, Rocky. I got that in email yesterday. The email addresses for every member of the Texas House Redistricting Committee are at the link.
I plan on writing to all of them this weekend, and hope that every Texas Freeper does the same.
Yesterday was the 175th Anniverary of the Battle of San Jacinto (April 21, 1836). That is where Sam Houston totally defeated and captured Santa Anna ("the Napoleon of the West"). We have not forgotten and I suspect that the folks in Mexico still remember how they were treated on that day. Lets not try for a replay.
Forgot to mention, there were Tejanos who fought for Texas at the Alamo and at San Jacinto.
Example: Juan Sequin
Fact.
yup, but no Comanches fought for Spain ~ they fought everybody. They are why Mexico’s claim isn’t all that good.
It’s off topic. There are a lot of Texans on the list, and I thought they should know how their vote is effectively being stolen right out from under them.
Thanks TSR! I haven’t kept up with the redistricting efforts. I was assuming Pubbies would pick up another few districts considering the last election so I gotta wonder if Solomon’s map has a snowball’s chance. Just fired off a nice note to my state rep to check his pulse on it.
BTTT
That I agree with - thanks for the ping.
Perhaps the Republicans are more interested in holding onto a very strong 90 seat majority for a decade rather than a tenuous 100+ seat majority that could just as easily slide back down to minority status in a down year. The 2010 election was a high water mark.
Governor Rick Perry’s Office is closed for Good Friday and will be open again on Monday.
Thought some might want his FAX number so a letter can be in place when the office is again open.
Office of the Governor (Texas) Fax: (512) 463-1849
There were some “blue dog” Dems who were defeated because of the district changes then. They appeared to be “moderate” Dems, but they always voted with the pac on anything substantial. An example was Charles Stenholm.
Anyone left in the Dem Party is either a Commie, a liar covering up the fact that they are a Commie or simply so stupid to realize the Commies control the entire Dem Party.
NO EXAGERATION.
I'm very glad we knocked off all the old 'RAT incumbents that we did both in the TX House and in the congressional delegation. We got rid of the deadwood leftovers from previous DemocRAT gerrymandinering. It is especially satisfying that Chet Edwards (D-TX17) finally lost his congressional seat after years of him claiming to be a blue dog but always voting with the left wingers whenever he could get away with it.
Don't forget that after the 2008 elections Republicans had just a 2 seat majority in the TX House with the same districts in which we won our 102 seat majority. In 2008 we won the 76th seat by a margin of just 19 votes. Had the TX House been tied 75-75, the DemocRATS would have insisted on having a DemocRAT speaker.
Texas is not and never has been a Leftie State.
Some of my ancestors were born in Texas during the Republic but most of them came during Reconstruction. (the last time the political corruption was as bad in Washington DC)
Nothing in my lifetime has done more to galvanize the resolution of the troops in TX like the presence of Obozo at 1600 Penn. Ave.
This will be a fight to the death if that is necessary. Texas will not be subjected. The idiots that talk about “demographics” fail to take into account that not all Hispanics are lefties. Texas will never be a “blue state” again, it is so against the grain. There will be a war first....
