Simon & Schuster's Revenge
By Douglas Hackleman
In 1993, thirty-three-year-old Barack Obama stiffed Poseidon Press, then an imprint of Simon & Schuster -- producing absolutely nothing for the publisher that in November 1990 had given the new graduate of Harvard Law School a $125,000 advance to write a book about race relations in America .
Eighteen years later, Simon & Schuster has achieved a modicum of revenge (intended or not) by contracting with literary and intellectual sleuth Jack Cashill to impose on Obama a little of the transparency he so disingenuously promised during the campaign of 2008. Given Obama's approach to truth, the title of Cashill's sometimes impertinent sounding imposition --Deconstructing Obama: The Life, Loves, and Letters of America 's First Postmodern President -- suggests an appropriate methodology.
In this ever so readable and informative book, Cashill has taken great pains to corral probative evidence for two interesting matters: (1) the truth about who finally wrote Dreams From My Father, the essay-cum-memoir that Random House -- providing its own advance of $40,000 -- eventually published; and (2) very reasonable questions about the paternity of the current president of the United States.
It had not occurred to Cashill in the autumn of 2008 to wonder who wrote Dreams, until a friend's query about the political significance of some passages from the book led him to purchase a copy. As one who writes for a living, who teaches writing, who has been the book doctor to the publications of others and who is the author of a recent book, Hoodwinked, about literary and intellectual fraud, Cashill has antennae finely tuned to assess the writing quality of any text he reads. Of the thousand-plus portfolios of professional writers Cashill had read " .

“Did O ever pay back the advance to S&S...and if not, why not?”
Many times a book deal or speaking tour is a form of money laundering. I’ll give you 1 million, but you have to speak at six universities for 30 minutes each. I’ll give you six million, and here is a ghost writer you’ll hire for 250K for a book, and you’ll need to go on a book tour.
Yes, for those of us who sell books to a publisher for a living, it’s astounding that he got away with that. There is no way my publisher (Penguin) would allow me to keep an advance and not turn in a book.
Wow. I had no idea it was that many. Still, seemed like a big advance at the time.
Joe Scarborough column at Politico :
Bill Ayers wrote Dreams From My Father, Trump told me.
I have no doubt about it.
That first book was total genius and helped get him elected.
But you can tell Obama did the second book himself
because it read like it was written by somebody of average intelligence with a high school education.

The New York Times did a puff piece on Barry’s literary skills in May 2008.
Barry was having such a tough time “ writing “ his book ,
that he decamped to Indonesia
( the world’s largest Muslim country , I’m sure it was just a coincidence.....) for “ several months .”
” His half-sister, Maya Soetoro-Ng, said he eventually retreated to Bali for several months with his wife, Michelle,
to find a peaceful sanctuary where there were no phones.
Maybe Trump might be able to send investigators to Indonesia to discover where Barry and Michelle lived
and how long they stayed there.
No one else seems interested in Barry and Michelle’s strange and never explained Indonesian odyssey.

Interesting tidbit from the article regarding The Audacity of Hope.
He wrote very polished first drafts, said Cass R. Sunstein,
a University of Chicago law professor who read drafts of chapters on the Constitution and economic policy.
........ I gave him some potential formulations for what he might write.
He always put it in his own words.
Not once did he use my words.
So Sunstein helped write Audacity ??
If you voluntarily give money to someone to produce something, and they don’t do it, it is probably a civil matter, not a criminal matter.
Maybe it was more like Hillary's futures trading--laundered money from who knows where.
Reckon those FBI files came in handy.
Isn’t an advance part of a contract? Would it not be a breach of contract for one not to produce a manuscript after one has accepted the advance?
By then, the Supreme Court will assume to be just a rubber stamp to validate whatever our first president-for-life decides.
The book sold over 1 million copies the first month.
Hmmmmmm...wonder how many were 'case lot' sales? Also wonder how many cases are still remain in DNC warehouses?
but to whom?....unions /$HRILLary et.al. .
rem: Fort Worthless Jim Wright?
(IIRC) one word per page, all bought up by
Union thugs / stored in gov. warehouse.
all that "recalling" for nothing.
How did he ever get a book contract, let alone an advance? He was a nobody in 1993.
He was being “groomed”
Sigh. Some cases are criminal. Some cases are civil.
If you’ve read Obama’s law review article, you know it’s pitiful. If someone paid for that, they were ripped off.
Obama is a vessel. His main protection or “gun” is people’s fear of being called racist if they criticize him.
The country is really being run by an ultra leftist cabal of bureaucrats and handlers guiding the agenda behind the scenes. He acts as the sandbagger for this.
He is high priced window dressing, a figurehead.
