For a Vietnamese émigré accused of robbing only Chinese people, familiarity breeds contempt.
But then Hanoi-born Ha Vasko, 68 -- a slight woman whose toothpick frame vanishes into her brown drab Rikers Island jail uniform -- is not your typical pickpocket.
The serial thief usually flies Delta from Melbourne, Fla., where she lives richly with her golfing American husband in a $400,000 waterfront home, to New York City's cacophonous Chinatown with only one thing on her mind.

Married for 41 years, the pair met in 1972 at the end of the Vietnam War. He was a civilian engineer working on military satellites, and she was working behind a Hanoi bar. Am I nuts, or is there something screwy about an American engineer "working on military satellites" meeting his soon to be wife in a Hanoi bar, in 1972?

“Melbourne, Fla., where she lives richly with her golfing American husband in a $400,000 waterfront home...”
A $400K WATERFRONT home? Really? I need to get me one of those!

There’s something strange about a “civilian engineer working on military satellites, and she was working behind a Hanoi bar.”
Don’t you think so? Obviously you do, or you wouldn’t have posted your cute and confused smileys. ;o)

Theres something strange about a civilian engineer working on military satellites, and she was working behind a Hanoi bar.I suspect it means that most journalists are as ignorant of geography as they are of economics.

Next she’ll get four years for “hate crimes” since she openly admitted that she hates the Chinese.
She belongs in a psychiatric hospital. After all, she “can’t help herself.” That’s insane behavior.
To: Slings and Arrows
She’s a kleptomaniac; can’t help herself from helping herself.

That’s why they’re going to throw the book at her.
To: Slings and Arrows
You watch, all mention of her will vanish and she’ll turn up working for the feds.

“...shell turn up working for the feds.” I’d rather have her working for us.

She’ll be working for the Men In Black?

Nah. Not surprising. The guy could have been working ground stations (the 1/2 of the system that’s not in orbit).
