DEVELOPING: Congressional leaders, with barely an hour to go before a federal government, announced late Friday night they had reached a deal to fund the government through the end of the fiscal year.

House Speaker John Boehner, speaking briefly to reporters after talks had concluded, said the plan was to pass one last short-term spending resolution Friday night to buy lawmakers the time needed to prepare and pass the final budget bill.

I appreciate that you are Tea Party, but I don’t know that Tea Party stands for the unborn.

What is getting obscured is that this wasn't a cut it all -- it's actually nearly $300 billion MORE than 2010. But people keep talking about the "cut" which is really just a cut in the proposed INCREASE.

Needs repeating. We got rolled.

Well, the folks at DU and DailyKos are beside themselves with fury.

Here at Fr we are about what, 60/40 against. They are 100% against.

So I am cautiously optimistic. I think things are heading our way. We are not there yet. But we are taking big strides getting there.

If I were a Democrat, I would jump, jump, jump with joy at having folks like you as my opposition. And I would pray that more of my opposition would express the same sentiment. Then I would plead, “go find more Christine O’Donnells and Sharon Angles to run against me and other Democrats.”

We've known from day one that John Boohoo was not the right person to fight this battle. He's someone we need to keep a constant pressure on to do the right thing. He's too prone to compromise and caving in.

Here's the problem - compromise is a loss. The left gets what they want - they need to get this: NOTHING.

Anyway, if you don't like how much I want this country saved, join the rats. They don't like it either.

It is not about a vote on abortion. It is about a vote on the continued funding of Planned Parenthood. Big, big difference. PP advocates will say that the federal funding is not used for abortion, but rather, to provide all of the other services they provide for poor women, e.g., cancer screenings. Here is the Dem spin

"Republicans portray Planned Parenthood as primarily focused on performing abortions and – intentionally or not – using American taxpayer dollars to do it.

Not so, say Democrats who counter that the group's 800-plus health centers nationwide provide an array of services, from screenings for cancer to testing for sexually transmitted diseases. Abortion is just one of many procedures, and the law bars Planned Parenthood from using tax money for it.

In the budget maelstrom that threatened to partially shut the federal government Friday stood Planned Parenthood Federation of America, a 90-year-old organization now part of a decades-long congressional battle over abortion.

Giving its version, Planned Parenthood said it performed about 330,000 abortions last year, 3 percent of its total health care services. The organization also said its doctors and nurses annually conduct 1 million screenings for cervical cancer, 830,000 breast exams and some 4 million tests and treatments for sexually transmitted diseases.

The organization said it receives $363 million in federal funds, getting its money from both the Title X program and Medicaid. Title X provides grants for family planning and related health services under a law signed by Republican President Richard M. Nixon in December 1970.

Of the Title X money, Planned Parenthood gets about $70 million, some 25 percent of the $317 million in Title X spending. The organization's annual budget is $1.1 billion and includes individual donations.

Federal law bars Planned Parenthood from using tax dollars for abortion. In 1976, three years after the landmark Supreme Court decision legalizing abortion, Congress passed the Hyde Amendment which bars the use of taxpayer funds for abortion except in cases of rape, incest or to save the life of the mother.

One inning doesn’t make a game. I’m giving them some slack. They control 1/3 of the Federal Gov’t. Every at bat, keep getting whatever you can.

Wow! That’s all I can say ... The angry dog posters at Free Republic would not know victory if someone came up and handed them a million dollars in cash.

It’s vitally important — key to long term success — that we not let the perfect be the enemy of the good.

Too many people here are just plain mean, bitter, angry knuckleheads.

By any objective measure, Boehner was masterful. Not perfect. But perfect was never in the cards.

We take this victory and move on. Tomorrow will bring more success. And the next day. And the next.

Today is a day to be happy.

They should have just prepared a single CR to cover the military through 2012 and then a separate domestic spending CR to cover everything else. For whatever reason Boehner went this way and no matter how much lipstick you put on it, it is still a pig.

He caved on the most important issue in order to preserve some image of being "reasonable". Well the democrats are never "reasonable". They are still going to paint republicans as forcing this bill through and while they are murdering children in the womb they will claim that the Republicans are starving them on the streets.

The democrats know they are in a war and they act like it. The republicans have their heads buried in the sand thinking that if they are only nice, that the MSM and the democrats will stop calling them radical extremists. That ain't gonna happen and the sooner they realize it, the better.

If Donald Trump is serious about his conversion to pro-life, then he's got my vote. He seems to be the only Republican out there that doesn't give a rip what the MSM thinks of him, and since he was their darling a few years ago, they don't know how to deal with him.

I am skeptical of his conversion. But he never pushed through an abortion on demand bill like Romney or a state run health care system. So even if Romney's conversion is legitimate, since he never admitted he was wrong on his prior liberal positions and seems to be claiming to be pro-life just to appease the right, I don't think I could ever support him.

Palin seems to be gun shy on some of the issues (not that I can blame her), but I'm really looking for a Ronald Reagan personality and if I pretend that Trump wasn't a life long liberal, I'd say he has the charisma to lead this country. OTOH, he may not be serious at all and may be playing us all for fools. Palin is my favorite based on overall consistency, but she needs to come out of her comfort zone and take on the MSM face to face like Trump has been doing. Trump has been making mincemeat of these liberal interviewers. Palin needs to take a lesson from Trump.

...and we have the arrogance to ask for G-d's blessings on America?

What, by this action, was done with the Federal budget:
.
A family with income of $26,000 a year is spending $38,000. (Add eight zeroes to each of those figures and you have the federal budget.)
.
The so-called “man of the house” tells his family, “We can’t go on like this. Our credit cards are near their limit, and soon we won’t even be able to pay the interest on them. We need to spend less, so let’s cut spending this year by $630”
.
After a few days of conflict at home, he can’t bear the pressure. He goes back to his family and sheepishly tells them he will be satisfied if they cut spending by only $390.
.
Why should we have any confidence Republican leaders will have the courage to address the remaining $11,600 in my example (multiplied by 100 million in the federal budget) when they can’t hold out even a weekend over $240?
.
I’m thoroughly disgusted with not just them, but my supposedly conservative Congressman that voted them into positions of leadership.

The republicans need to remove the troops from these kind of spats. They are unfair collateral damage.

Do you realize Republicans TRIED to do just that? Reid and Obama wouldn't do it. Even Bill Clinton wasn't that cruel-he agreed with Newt to take the military off the table and fund them through the end of that year during the 95 budget battle!

The 2010 budget was 3.5 trillion. The 2011 budget, which became Boehner's budget because the Democrats never passed one, will now be 3.6 trillion.

That's an increase compared to the stimulus loaded budget of 2010.

That's "good" in your view?

Unbelievable.

I hope you are right! I wonder if we will have the votes to defund PP? When will they have the vote?

this language about the life of the mother? does that allow them to say...I do not feel well, I am depressed etc? can a Dr say her emotional health is to delicate etc?

Of course every federal dollar PP gets is a dollar of their own they can use for abortions. It's subsidizing abortions any way you look at it.

Add in the missing BILLION in PP federal funding between 2003 and 2008, according to the GAO, and there's a very real question about giving PP any federal money.

If you can "misplace" $1.3 billion in tax dollars over 5 years, why do you deserve to be trusted with 1 penny more?

As Pence, author of the rider, said Friday the money available for Title X doesn't change only whether PP itself gets any of it.

This battle is about abortion. It is not about women's health. Those funds are not cut.

I realize that all money is fungible, but the MSM and the Dems will say that federal law prohibits the use of the money for abortions. I believe that some Senate Reps will vote to continue to fund PP and certainly all of the Dems will. It is all about health care for poor women after all.

Ah but then you miss out on being a part of another such glorious principled action like Picket's Charge. /sarc

We take this victory and move on. Tomorrow will bring more success. And the next day. And the next.

Agreed, you have to keep the long march in mind because we have to bring along the slow-to-catch-up independents. If you use the spurs too hard they buck.
