DEVELOPING: Congressional leaders, with barely an hour to go before a federal government, announced late Friday night they had reached a deal to fund the government through the end of the fiscal year.
House Speaker John Boehner, speaking briefly to reporters after talks had concluded, said the plan was to pass one last short-term spending resolution Friday night to buy lawmakers the time needed to prepare and pass the final budget bill.

And the only way for Republicans to appoint federal judges is to get the House, Senate, and the Presidency.
Oops, we already had them.
The GOP came out of this saying, WE GOT ALL WE COULD GET, WHICH IS PRETTY GOOD.
They should have come out of this saying, WE HAVE SHUT THE GOVERNMENT DOWN UNTIL WE HAVE THE FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY THIS COUNTRY NEEDS.
We could have blamed Odumbi for refusing to pay the troops like they were paid in 1995. We could have offered seperate bills for paying the troops.
The small amounts of money weren’t any amount that was going to change the deficit/debt situation. It really doesn’t matter how much money we got 30 40 60 70 100, it was about establishing the fact that WE MEANT BUSINESS
.................................... BUSINESS AS USUAL is what we got.
Love your graphic! But, believe me, Phil...this isn’t the hill you want to die on.
There’s much more controversy and fight left to come. And, it’s much more important for the future of this country.
What happened tonight was a drop in the bucket...
>>One said “Democrats got rolled by Boehner”<<
Let’s hope it doesn’t do to his head.
It doesn’t go far enough in true cuts in spending! What should conservatives and TEA Party members do next, for the short-term and for the long-term?
Whenever a deal is struck between “Establishment Republicans”, “Elitist Republicans”, “RINOS”, moderates, and leftists, then true conservatism loses, always!
Thanks Bonehead for continuing to allow the EPA to destroy our nation and CPB to brainwash our kids. /sarc
After the smoke has cleared, the news stories tell me we got $38.5 billion in cuts. Do the Republicans even know how much in cuts we got?
Agreed.
This time next year we will be in another Continuing Resolution battle of this pig of a FY11 budget. Don't think this country can stand another $2 trillion+ added to the debt over the next year.
Some say we'll win the debt ceiling battle. I think the Republicans will get steamrolled by Harry and the press on that one also. I see the can merely being kicked down the road by this bunch in D.C.
Plus, Schmukie Schumer eats his words from yesterday afternoon:
"Senate will never, never, never defund Planned Parenthood."
Well, I got news for you Chuck. You painted yourself into a corner - putting abortions ahead of pay for our troops. The GOP never even took on "Planned Parenthood" and Title X, they wanted the DC abortion mills to not receive taxpayer dollars. You and the left tried the "Planned Parenthood" scheme as a smokescreen, and THAT organization is as dirty and bloody as the come. It was akin to trying to portray Elena CeauÈescu as Mother Theresa. The don't provide cancer screening or mammograms either - the GOP was out in front with radio commercials with testimonials from former Planned Parenthood workers who spoke about these bloody scourges that God will surely punish severely.
Now the GOP has cleaned up the "mess" Pelosi said she was deliberately leaving behind for the Republicans (no FY11 budget). On to FY 2012 - and here is the good part: we already know Obama can blink.
Praise God.
So the GOP basically ratified a permanent stimulus. We either need a new party or a new country... I can’t decide which.
At present, the Tea Party is fighting the Republican Party’s battles for it.
Actually, now his highness can golf at Andrews and Belivor with no fear of them being closed.
The right ALWAYS caves to the left, while the left NEVER caves as much to the right! When, if ever, is the right going to succeed in ending this several decades old political trend?
Perhaps. But all the dems already voted against repealing Obamacare earlier this year and they all already voted for it last year, so they’re already on record for 2012. It’s not like this vote will change anything in that regard. And they already voted for funding pp in earlier budgets so they’re on record there, too. So I don’t see these new votes being any big win for the GOP. Do people in NE not know that Nelson voted for Obamacare? Do people in MT and MO not know that Tester and McCaskill did?
Maybe this was the best they could do. It’s better than nothing. Better than what would have happened if the dems still had the House. It’s in the right direction. But it doesn’t really give any confidence for any meaningful cuts in the future. So 40B here. Maybe the same amount or say they even double it to 80B next year. Does that really make any meaningful impact?
I guess as long as we don’t have the WH and Senate it will be tough to really get something done.
Isn't there something wrong when we're pinning all our hopes of the "final battle" on something (Ryan's bill) which won't even come close to solving our problems?
$4.4 trillion in deficit reduction over 10 years simply means that we rack up "only" another $11 trillion in debt rather than $16 trillion over those 10 years. It still assumes we are able to borrow or monetize that additional $10 trillion. Fixes nothing, only kicks the can down the road delays the inevitable.
I agree 100%. We have bigger fish to fry. As long as Dems hold the Senate, and the bozo is in the White House, we have to accept certain realities.
2012 is coming, and like someone said earlier, “That is the hill to stand, and possibly die on”.
The Dems have always used incrementalism.
Paul Ryan has loaded the weapons, and drawn out a battle plan, but we need more soldiers on the field to implement it.
