DEVELOPING: Congressional leaders, with barely an hour to go before a federal government, announced late Friday night they had reached a deal to fund the government through the end of the fiscal year.

House Speaker John Boehner, speaking briefly to reporters after talks had concluded, said the plan was to pass one last short-term spending resolution Friday night to buy lawmakers the time needed to prepare and pass the final budget bill.

I just tried calling his office and the message box is full, naturally. I did send a scathing email.
I would suggest we all do the same.

When will we fight? What happens when the Dems use the same tactics on the 2012 budget? Do we worry about shutting down the government? What happens when the vote on raising the debt ceiling comes up? Do we back down again?

Unless the Reps show the stomach to fight every battle, especially after the historic results of the 2010 elections, then we will have more of these fake victories. I remember Giuliani's approach to crime in NYS. They went after the squeegee guys first. Once you show that you will not tolerate any level of crime, then you can really change things.

I don't consider tonight's agreement a victory, but rather a retreat rather than standing and fighting. One more cave in like tonight and the Reps are finished for 2012 and maybe beyond. I see the formation of a third party initiated by the Tea Party movement and conservatives.

More innocent children were going to die regardless of whether Boehner withdrew or not. I wanted this aspect of the bill to pass as much as you. But Obama’s going to try and run next year. He needs Planned Parenthood. It’s one of the few groups he has left. He wasn’t going to let it go. Trust me, it’s not okay with me.

“Yes this is a joke and so are the so called “deals”

True and just wait til the Dems get finished with Paul Ryan’s budget plan. He and Tammy Faye will be sobbing in the cloakroom. But they will dry their eyes and still vote to raise the debt ceiling. Count on it.

Tens of millions of Americans receive Federal benefits. They are not on our side, and they put Barry into office. That is the reality we have to change, but making the addict quit cold turkey is a sure way to lose.

Rasmussen says that the majority is on our side.

....Did the Republicans win ANYTHING?”

The open votes man...that is huge. I have no idea why in the hell Obama and Reid allowed that. They are going to drag them back into defending Obamacare again. What if it actually gets repealed? Then Obama has to sign or veto.

Lol, if I were a Democrat I would vote to repeal and make Obama veto. That way I am off the hook.

Those open Senate votes are going to have HUGE implications for 2012, because so many Dems have to defend seats.

(yawn)
I think you are failing to take into account all the (now former) Republican voters who are throwing their hands in the air and wondering, "What's the point?" The scumbag House Republicans have just brushed off the tea party like dandruff.

It’s too small an amount; too little a deficit impact; too late in the game.
//////////////
If they chickened out over a
“too small amount,
a too little deficit impact,
a too late in the game”.

IF They can’t be trusted to stand firm in a little fracas, if they can’t take the heat in a insignificant small skirmish................ THEY WILL NEVER STAND AND FIGHT IN THE IN THE POLITICAL FLAMES AND PRESSURES OF REAL COMBAT IN THE BIG BATTLE.

The deal includes $38.5 billion in spending cuts

$38 billion? Heck, Dubya gave over $20 billion to Africa for AIDS prevention. We throw tens of billions around the world like it's nothing and they're patting themselves on the back for this? Anything under a quarter trillion dollars in cuts is anemic.

Lose what? The voters who put Ubama in office?
Sorry, but I can't make sense of your post.

The trouble is when there never seems to be a hill on which we’re willing to fight.

Then they are not thinking. The only way to repeal Obamacare is to get the Senate and the Presidency.

By forcing a vote on repeal you force the Senate Democrats to go through hell again. The phone calls, the emails, the news reports. The American people don't want it. If I were a Democrat I'd go ahead and vote to repeal it just for getting put through that again.

Then it will be all on Obama.

To me it looks like an opening to drive a wedge right between Senate Democrats and Obama.

The worst that can happen is we get them all on the record one more time on this before elections.

How long will God have mercy on a corrupt nation?

Not much longer. When we turn on Israel, it’s over.

The little murdered babies will be in heaven.

It's a lesson the timid Rovian Republicans will never learn.

All one has to do is look at the graph of George Bush's favorability ratings from 2001 - 2008.

These so-called negotiations were over when the Reps announced from the very beginning that they did not want to shut down the government. Once you announce to the enemy that you will not use your most potent weapon, you have lost the war. We will be faced with the same decision on the 2012 budget. I doubt the GOP establishment will have the guts to pull the trigger then or ever.
