Army Gen. Carter Ham says ground forces wouldn't be ideal, but may be a possible way to aid rebels; Says current operation largely stalemated

(CBS/AP) WASHINGTON - The United States may consider sending troops into Libya with a possible international ground force that could aid the rebels, according to the general who led the military mission until NATO took over.

Army Gen. Carter Ham also told lawmakers Thursday that added American participation would not be ideal, and ground troops could erode the international coalition and make it more difficult to get Arab support for operations in Libya.

Ham said the operation was largely stalemated now and was more likely to remain that way since America has transferred control to NATO.

I agree. It’s time for the rest of the world to step up. No more American boots on the ground in the Middle East.

Any outcome other than Kha-Daffy being gone will mean Obama is wrong, so you know which way they’re heading

A large contingent of Marines shipped out to the Med from Camp Lejeune two weeks ago. By now I'm sure their ships are somewhere off the coast of North Africa in close proximity to Libya. The Marines are in position to carry out amphibious operations ... will they go in is the question.

Whether or not troops actually get sent, the important thing to notice is that Gen. Ham is saying that the original "humanitarian" mission has now transmogrified into an essentially open alliance with the rebels.

Just so's we can all keep our eye on this particular ball....

C’mon Generals, let’s move fast. Your big chance is here at last!..............

From the day I became a civilian, I've always yearned for an opportunity to say to a General/Flag officer, "You're a F#$%ing Idiot".

Today is the day! Thanks, General Ham! You're a F#$%ing Idiot!

It would be much more satisfying to say it to him personally.

Opposition politics is popular and effective, but in poor taste and nonproductive.

He's thinking in terms of making this work and getting the outcome we want for our nation. His perspective is to make our team “win,” irrelevant of who is in office.

Don't make Libya into the Obama quagmire, illegal war...bla bla bla and do the typical anti war humdrum crap, defaming soldiers or victimizing them, looking for the Schadenfreude and creating false moral arguments etc. as the left did with Iraq and where they turned it into Bush's war and essentially did all they could do to make it fail (Which it thank God didn't). Just because Obama took cheap political shots at Bush and capitalized all he could from any mishap in Iraq, GITMO, Afghanistan doesn't mean we need to debase ourselves as he did.

General Ham suffers from PTSD. He has admitted so. Not that I hold it against him, nor anyone, but he of ALL people should know the cost of war...

IMO, Marines are so close to Libya they could swim ashore.
Would not want to be in Vicenza, Italy as a member of the 173rd Airborne Brigade either...
I mean who in hell knows what Obi will do? When he himself, has no idea? This gold-club swinging bastard couldn’t park a bicycle straight!

Gen. Carter Ham, you and the rest of the lawyers running these “controlled military actions” can go screw yourself. 1984 was a warning, not a playbook. Idiots.

Two words. Nuclear f——— weapons, okay?! Russia, Germany, Romania - they can have all the Democracy they want. They can have a big democracy cake-walk right through the middle of Tiananmen square and it won’t make a lick of difference because we’ve got the bombs, okay?! John Wayne’s not dead - he’s frozen. And as soon as we find the cure for cancer we’re gonna thaw out The Duke and he’s gonna be pretty pissed off. You know why? Have you ever taken a cold shower? Well multiple that by 15-million times, that’s how pissed off The Duke’s gonna be. - Dennis Leary (A-Hole)
