GOP shouldn't panic if whites become a minority
The Washington Examiner ^ | April 2, 2011 | Michael Barone

Are whites on the verge of becoming a minority of the American population? That's what some analysts of the 2010 census results say. Many go on, sometimes with relish, to say that this spells electoral doom for the Republican Party.

I think the picture is more complicated than that. And that the demise of the Republican Party is no more foreordained than it was a century ago when Italian, Jewish and Polish immigrants were pouring into the United States in proportions much greater than the Hispanic and Asian immigration of the past two decades.

The numbers do appear stark. The census tells us that 16 percent of U.S. residents are Hispanic, up from 13 percent in 2000 and 9 percent in 1990, and that 5 percent are Asian, up from 4 percent in 2000. The percentage of blacks held steady at 13. Among children, the voters of tomorrow, those percentages are higher.

But it's a mistake to see blacks, Hispanics and Asians as a single "people of color" voting bloc. The 2010 exit poll shows that the Republican percentages in the vote for the U.S. House were 60 percent among whites, 9 percent among blacks, 38 percent among Hispanics and 40 percent among Asians.

Simple arithmetic tells you that Hispanics and Asians vote more like whites than like blacks. The picture is similar in the 2008 exit poll.

Moreover, while blacks vote similarly in just about every state, there is wide variation among Hispanics. In 2010 governor elections Hispanics voted 31 percent Republican in California, 38 percent Republican in Texas and 50 percent Republican in Florida (where Cubans are no longer a majority of Hispanics).

I’m inclined to agree with you. Frankly I’d rather live in a hispanic majority area than a black or white trash majority area. There are assholes in every race (and I see a disproratinate amount of aforementioned trash where I live.) There are leftard latinos but there are also plenty of good conservative catholics as well.

Being a minority is not the issue.

The make up of the country has been changed by politicians allowing tens of millions of illegals to simply walk in and take up residence here. That is an insane policy.

Heard a professor on the radio explain that by 2050 illegal immigration will increase the US population by 124 million.

Insanity.

While you are being told not to worry about becoming a minority, you are deliberately being turned into a minority by people who sold out teh country with illegality.

Why should hispanics or any other group be allowed to change this country by simply squatting here from Mexico, etc.?

Look at those statistics. Don’t worry, these groups vote up to 40% republican. How stupid are we?

The real point is illegal immigration is an outrage and means our citizenry has to have less devotion to this country than legal immigrants would have.

Half the people in my neighborhood are mixed-race couples, and this is a pretty normal neighborhood.

As they said in Starship Troopers: "I'm doing my part!"

Latin America is part of the West. It has always seemed to me that white Americans tend to favor those with Bourgeois values rather than western cultural affinity. Hence the (relative) ready acceptance of Jews, Christian Arabs, and (since the mid-20th century) Asians.

oh I don’t disagree with you at all. I think illegals should be thrown back so hard that they bounce. I’m just pointing out that there are far worse groups of people to have as immigrants and many of them have the makings of good citizens. Provided they come here legally like my ancestors did.

I wonder what percentage of native born hispanics vote Republican vs immigrant hispanics. It could be that because many hispanics are recent immigrants they vote Dem as do most immigrants while more affluent native born hispanics do not follow that pattern.

Multiculturalism is established by Marxism to make one race hate the other.

Amen to that and the rest of your post. Barone is citing immigration figures from the 1930s when the immigrants took an oath of citizenship, when qualified, and swore to uphold the Constitution and the law of the land. Today, even the President, another immigrant, ignores the Constitution.

The Communists were especially active in the 1960s and '70s in dividing us along the lines of race, gender, sexual preference, rich-poor and just about anyway they could. You can't have class warfare if everyone is the same class - Americans.

"Most Hispanics are “white” so why aren’t they counted as such?

It is interesting that, according to FBI crime statistics, Hispanics are classified as "White" when they are perpetrator of a crime, but are classified as "Hispanic" when they are a crime victim.

America is the first nation in world history to commit suicide. It will soon be joined by France, Germany, Britain, the Netherlands, etc.

The middle and upper classes in LAtin American countries are fairly western. The less-white urban and rural poor are not.
CAn we assimilate Latinos? Yes. But we are not. Our cultural elites oppose assimilation. Public Schools were created largely to assimilate the children of immigrants. Today they exist to teach non-whites to hate white America and white children to hate their heritage and feel guilty. The raw number of immigrants, legal and illegal is a huge issue. We have never had 3 generations in a row of high levels of immigration. And we have never dealt with immigrants from a neighboring irridentist and revanchist country.

What do you think AuH?

10 years ago they were saying “in 10 years Texas and Arizona will be democrat”. Still waiting for that.

I think that the GOP will be okay so long as it remains an ideological party. Democrats won’t be able to win supermajorities of the Hispanic or Asian votes by playing the race card—in fact, I think that their near-absolute hold on black voters will come t oa close within the next decade or so.

That would be nice if that happens before LBJ's "100 years" is up. GOP getting just 20-25% would probably kill rat chances at the White House.
