Anger over Quran burning spreads in Afghanistan

KABUL, Afghanistan – Anger over the burning of the Muslim holy book at a Florida church fueled a second day of deadly violence half a world away in Afghanistan, where demonstrators set cars and shops ablaze Saturday in a riot that killed nine protesters, officials said.

The church's desecration of the Quran nearly two weeks ago has outraged millions of Muslims and others worldwide, fueling anti-American sentiment that is further straining ties between the Afghan government and the West.

The uproar even brought violence to the normally peaceful northern city of Mazar-i-Sharif on Friday, when a crowd of protesters — apparently infiltrated by insurgents — stormed a U.N. compound in an outpouring that left four Afghan protesters and seven foreign U.N. employees dead.

The Quran was burned March 20, but many Afghans only found out about it when Afghan President Hamid Karzai condemned the desecration four days later.

We should get these aid groups out of harm’s way and then change the rules of engagement. The mullahs have been allowed to have it easy. They whip up their people and send them out to kill others and/or die in suicide attacks. Meanwhile, the Mullah’s stay safely behind. The new ROE should simply be that every Mullah who incites violence is to be treated as a terrorist in that war zone and as such, killed within a very short period of time afterwards, either by a Spec Ops “A Team” sniper, Predator drone missile or a GPS bomb dropped from 20,000 feet, or some other munition suitable to the occasion. If they incite violence from the mosque, it’s to be no longer treated as a place of worship, but as a military or terrorist command structure and taken out. If these ROEs were put into place, I have a feeling that we’d quickly find the Mullahs to be far less talkative with a corresponding drop in violence. That said, we must never forget what this religion is all about and protect ourselves accordingly.

Well said. But also include the financial supporters of the mullahs.

Our real enemies are the radical clerics, and the wealthy Islamics who finance them. Without finance, things would quiet down real fast.

To tell the truth I do not want to comment on this, yet the islamist (imho) have crossed the line, and not the church in Florida. It is time our leaders and the people of this nation awake. The islamists burn our Bibles as they are found. It is time for this nation to do the same. islamists seek any excuse to riot, and murder. It is time to give the islamist a sign. Pull our people in the Middle East. Pull them now. Place them on the border and outlaw, yes I said outlaw islam in this nation. I grow tired of the games, and islam wants to play games, and advance their cause. I have grown tired of islam's cause. islam's cause is pure evil.

Get our people out of the Middle East. Forget about the oil. If the arabs do not want to place it on the market, then arabs do not eat. Begin drilling, in America, and do it now. As I said, I grow tired of the games. If our Congress and our government will not move heaven and earth to keep the people of this nation safe, and none of them are keeping America safe, then it is up to our government to confess they (our government) does not have the interests nor the safety concerns of this nation's people and another agenda or game is being played. If our government no longer works or listens to the people of this nation and does not have the nation's people's safety as their goal, then this war is lost. I will then agree with Harry Reid, because it will have been shown to me and countless other Americans our government is full of liars, who do not protect and defend the Constitution nor the people, and the American people have been sold to whoever was the highest bidder. Then Americans must know WHY!

Game time is over. It is time for leaders to come forth, and show the American people who and what they stand for. If they do not stand for America, they need weeding out. For any garden full of weeds is choked eventually, and this is what is being attempted, unless our leaders prove, yes I said prove, otherwise.

***The church’s desecration of the Quran nearly two weeks ago has outraged millions of Muslims and others worldwide,****

Why is it when someone destroys his OWN PERSONAL PROPERTY the world becomes enraged? The Saudis have a shreader at their airports just to shread bibles and other unwelcome books..

But then, what do you expect from a people who have the emotional developement of an four year old child?

I’m not for the burning of the Koran, but you may want to rethink your position as well.

Acts 19 Many of them also which used curious arts brought their books together, and burned them before all men: and they counted the price of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver.

Acts 20 So mightily grew the word of God and prevailed.

This is such bullshiite.

Burning a koran didn't have anything to do with a bunch of muzzie lunatics going berserk.

You Tube has plenty of videos showing people burning korans, wiping their butts on pages out of korans.....even wrapping pig guts in koran pages...nothing was said about any of this "disrespect"..for the koran....

The fact is that these people would have gone berserk anyway..they really don't have to have a reason...

..cats catch squirrels..

..muslims go berserk and riot over just about anything...

...its in their genes...it is their nature.

“Book burning was not modeled in the New Testament as a way to advance the Kingdom.”

Given that books were mostly in the future, and that Essene Jews like Jesus were accustomed to scrolls like the Torah, you are correct.

However, given that man has free will, what works to induce discussion of MadMo and the Koranimals can be sen as an exercise of that free will.

Well, I don’t want to waste good money buying a Koran in order to burn it.

I do. Especially if they're cheap, abundant, and suited to other means of trashing, e.g. one for every USA urinal.

Muslims attack and kill Christians and burn their churches (where they are allowed) all over the world. Christians turn the other cheek and largely ignore the atrocities.

But on book is burned and the islamderthals go crazy.

Seems a bit out of kilter to me.

Correct. These fanatics are not rioting and killing because a guy burned a copy of the Koran. They are rioting and killing because their religious leaders have ordered rioting and killing be done.

“That person’s point was that this was a mob of regular unarmed villagers who attacked”

Ahhh—the “moderate” muslims that the dems love to love, I presume?

You said:

“The Koran is as wrong as 2 left shoes, Islam is a pagan religion of the 1st order.

That being said, a Christian Church has no business burning a copy of Koran. It does nothing, zip, nada to advance the Kingdom of God.”

I wonder:

If a Christian Church sees the Koran as the work of the devil, would they be justified in fighting the evil one in this way?

I do not know if this particular pastor thinks the Koran is the devil’s work, but I do not agree that Islam is a pagan religion. I see it as a political system that is antithetical to ours, not to mention incompatible with our Judeo-Christian heritage and system of government.

I don’t recognize your authority to dictate what advances the Kingdom of God.

Of-course in this case of New Testament Book Burning. The burning was done by people who had converted and where burning their own books.

It would be like have the Afgan’s burning their own Korans. So it’s really not the same.
