LOS ANGELES (MarketWatch) -- A 6.5 magnitude earthquake struck Japan on Monday morning, prompting a tsunami warning, according to reports from the region. The quake hit near Miyagi prefecture, which suffered extensive damage in the catastrophic March 11 temblor, at 7:24 a.m. (6:24 p.m. U.S. Eastern time), according to Kyodo News. Dow Jones Newswires said the quake was centered off the coast. No injuries or damage were immediately reported. A tsunami warning was issued shortly after the quake, however the resulting wave was expected to be relatively small in size, according to CNBC.

Do you have the earthquake app for you iPad2 like my daughter showed me when we had breakfast at Gills by the Bay this morning which is 5 feet above high tide and is 706’ south of the decommissioned Humboldt Bay Nuclear power plant and did I ever tell you about the time this region a three 6.7 to 7.1 earthquakes in less than 24 hours but you did know it was several years after my terrifying 7.2 Tehachapi shaker of 1952?

I really wonder how much more this poor country can possibly take.

If you go the USGS (United States Geological Survey) website:

Recent Earthquakes - Last 8-30 Days

You will see "Honshu, Japan" quite a bit with 4+, 5+, and 6+ magnitude earthquakes.

This is just another 6+ earthquake OFFSHORE OF JAPAN IN THE OCEAN

Now if these earthquakes were hitting Sendai, Tokoyo, Akita, or other places onshore, these quakes (aftershocks) might be rougher on the Japanese people and would be causing damage.

As it is, these "aftershocks" may be disrupting cleanup and other efforts after the 9.0.

Remember that this 6.1 is about 1000 times SMALLER than the 9.0. It is also an offshore quake...

Here is a mind boggling almost 6 minute video of one town being flooded and washed away in Japan. The town was very near the epicenter of the quake.

You can say that again.

This latest one we definitely felt (this a.m. our time).

But the noticeable frequency of them (aftershocks) fortunately has significantly declined from two weeks ago considerably. Thank goodness.

If you have ever visited here, and seen its people up close, you'll know the answer to "how much?".

A lot.

An incredible amount.

They may yet freak out if things exponentially mulitiply at this point (which is all in the hand of God), but I do know that most major US cities, particularly inner cities, by this time, two weeks later after a 9.0 shake/blackouts/shortages/nuke scare, would probably be seeing looting, rapes, arson, assaults, carjackings, what-the-heck random shootings and murders, and probably martial law and tanks in the streets to crack down on all of it. I take no pleasure in saying that, but most Americans I know, even those in the military here, feel that way in a comparative sense. The Japanese have been by and large extremely law abiding, community spirited, orderly, forward-looking, non-complaining, cooperative and collected. For now.

Yes...one of the 150 quakes of 6+ magnitude in the world each year.

I live in middle Tennessee where the ground is nice and firm and only moves when I have had too much to drink

Well, let's hope the New Madrid fault continues to hold for you. Even in the middle of TN, when that thing gives I think you're gonna know it. ;-)

We are well over 200 miles from the New Madrid fault. We won’t feel much even if a really big one goes down.

The difference between a 9 and a 6.5 earthquake is the 9 is about 400 times as powerful.

Yes, but the area has been ringing like a bell for weeks, with EQ's largely in the 5-6 magnitude.

One thing I also noticed, one complete side of our planet was void of Earthqakes, while the other side was ringing all around the ocean.

This little program gives one the best way to see Earthquakes worldwide, all at the same time, and see ‘patterns’.

Don’t know if you have it, but if you don’t, you really should try it. It is awesome!

http://www.wolton.net/quake.html

Download the program (takes 2 seconds) and then run it.

IT’S FREE, and you can see EQ activity in 3D. Zoom in/out, with a panel of controls, easy to use.

They continue to go through a lot of hell that is for sure. The Utube account was closed down. Video no longer available.
But I am sure most have seen so many videos at this point they mostly look the same.

Also, Japan is ready for a 6.5 earthquake. Any structure that survived the 9.0 will likely not be damaged by the 6.5.
