How television created and then killed Sarah Palin’s political prospects
Globe and Mail ^ | 3/23/11 | John Doyle

Posted on 03/23/2011 7:25:52 AM PDT by MintyHippo1980

Last I heard about Sarah Palin was contained in a story with the headline, “Sarah Palin tours India and Israel to get to grips with foreign policy.”

It was tempting to see this headline in itself as illuminating, if not incisive. Who else would undertake a crash course in foreign-policy issues by starting with countries that, in turn, start with the letter “I”? You don’t have to be Sigmund Freud to see some significance. And the joke writes itself.

Just more gargling from the MSM (or is that sound a death rattle?)
The author is simply stupid - not funny, not clever, not insightful - just stupid.

"You can smell their fear."

Leftists totally IGNORE their political enemies if they don't percieve them to be an EFFECTIVE force against their agenda. That they actually believe their motives aren't transparent is pretty funny.

It is the stupidest article I’ve ever read about Palin. The “I’s,” indeed!

I’m interested in your turnaround with Sarah. Can you tell me a little about it? You are not the only one on FR coming around to her (I mean, aside from her fans). I’m truly fascinated!

“You don’t have to be Sigmund Freud to see some significance.”

Freud was ultimately quite foolish. John Doyle is following the pattern.

Both countries start with the letter i. Brillliant, just brilliant.

So what we have is Doyle, merely an everyday fool, while Freud is the fool’s fool.

From the article:

Then there is Reagan, the man Loeb (newspapers) wants to be president, the man who is old, OH SO AWFULLY OLD.

So old, come to think of it , that way back when Ronald Reagan was born, they didn’t spell old, old - on paper. They spelled old, aulde - on rocks.

Want to know which came first? The chicken or the egg? Ask Ronald Reagan, he ought to know. he was there when it happened.

... And every time Ronald Reagan Grecian Formula’s his hair - which is lots

..Reagan is not just plain old, aulde, Ronald Reagan is a Minoan.

Loeb (newspapers) says we need someone “mature”. He certainly is mature. VERY mature. The first time Reagan saw mature, people were fighting with sticks over raw meat because there was no such thing as fire yet.”

See, not much has changed since Reagan ran. This article is from the Palm Beach Post - April 11, 1979 -almost 32 years ago !

And this article from The Deseret News, Salt Lake City, UT Oct 8, 1979 (a year before the election) "My guess is that well before the snow falls in NH, Reagan's apparent support will have begun to slip away. The former Gov of California has all the charm all the solid conservative credentials he has had all along. But the seat of my pants tells me his lead will not last. It's not his AGE ! (of course not) It's his inexperience ! These past 3 Carter years have demonstrated with chilling clarity the folly of execting a president with no experience in Washington. (sound familiar?) Mr Reagan shares this same handicap. His resume is "thin stuff." Mr Carter never served anywhere in Washington (Senate, House, Cabinet...) He is leaving breathing example of the limitations of "on-the-job training". (sound familiar?) Of course, Reagan's opponents in the GOP ALL have so much DC beltway experience. (sound familiar?) In great questions of FOREIGN AFFAIRS, in everyday problems of getting things done on the hill, Mr Reagan is an innocent. He is a man of intelligence, highly principled, a quick study, all of that, but boters who have been dismayed by Carter are bound to reflect before lon, having lived with one amateur in the White House, on the prospect of two in a row.

Agreed, Miss M - my brother in law actually left the US and relinquished his citizenship, but often sends NYT articles with comments about how "we" look to the world. I'm like....who's WE?????!!!!

My other brother in law is a spoiled brat Wisconsin teacher who sheepishly acknowledges his cushy deal and then heads to Madison to protest for his "rights". Of course, to my inlaws, their two sons' words are golden, but yet who was put in charge of their health care decisions? Not the teacher or the Canadian ethics prof who wrote his thesis on euthanasia - no the black sheep Christian conservative.

You don’t have to be Sigmund Freud to see some significance. And the joke writes itself.

Hope this undeservedly, self-congratulatory, writer. finds as much meaning in the number of 'I's that are hooked into the utterances of our one, only and empty 'O-bama. Now, there is a psych study in mega narcissism; should there be interest, of course. And, of course, there is not. It is this Media's and certainly Doyle's, for the taking; and thus far; they have refused.

Less than pleased with the snippets I've seen of Sarah in India; but Doyle offers no more than his own pre-existing criticism; trying to justifiy it's existence.

ok, well, flame suit on -- I didn't like her during the McCain run as it seemed to me that she was an empty suit, and the media portrayed her as being dumb (and come on, most honest people have to admit that's the way she seemed)

Of course, the attacks on her having just run a small town was hypocritical considering Obama's lack of running anything

Then her resigning her governorship seemed non-sensical

however, since last year she has been clear and consistent in what she believes in, she has not tried to hide her or her families mistakes (a big plus point for me -- we all make mistakes, but those who lie and try to cover these up are untrustworthy) and she has proved uncannily accurate

In India and Israel, her words were clear, to the point and accurate. Maybe she's not the smartest person in the world, but she is honest, consistent and has the right conservative beliefs.

I would have preferred Jindal as he has more experience imho, but he has come out as a strong Palin supporter and ruled out his running. In my opinion that only make Palin a worthy candidate.

I'm taking this in a logical, calculated manner and logically, if you are a conservative, you need to be behind Palin.
