en. Rand Paul, Republican from Kentucky, had a press conference scheduled for today unveiling his plans for a five-year path to a balanced budget.

- Reduces spending by nearly $4 trillion relative to the President's budget - Achieves a $19 billion surplus in FY2016 - Brings all non-military discretionary spending back to FY2008 levels - Requires the process of entitlement reform, including Social Security and Medicare, with final implementation by FY2016 - Does not change Social Security or Medicare benefits - Block-grants Medicaid, SCHIP, foods stamps, and child nutrition · Provides the President's request for war funding - Reduces military spending 6 percent in FY2012 · Eliminates four departments: - Department of Commerce (transfers certain programs) - Department of Education (preserves Pell grants) - Department of Housing and Urban Development - Department of Energy (transfers nuclear research and weapons to Department of Defense) · Repeals Obamacare

I think we all need to get our representatives to at least give this a fair hearing and force the GOP to get an up down vote on it.

I agree. Paul Ryan’s plan is something like 20 years. We don’t have that long.

Repeals Obamacare

First and foremost!

Senator Paul’s plan is one of the best and boldest things that I have ever seen come out of Washington. Kudos to him for having the brilliance and balls to put it on the table.

"Brings all non-military discretionary spending back to FY2008 levels"

And 2008 was a big-spending bailout/stimulus year. If it is that easy, why not freeze spending at 2007 levels?

Rand Paul for President 2012.

I know you're impressed with him. We're all impressed. But please......he's only been on the job for three months. Let's see how he does after (at least) one term of battle testing, before we nominate him for the top job.

Yeah I thought the same thing. It actually makes you feel like their are at least a few politicians who understand how bad the monetary and fiscal situations actually are when put in proper historical perspective. I just love this plan on so many different levels, but mostly on its bold approach.

I’d be happy if they could even get half of this. I just don’t think they’ll ever be able to override Obama. He’s bent on total destruction of white middle class.

Maybe so, but you can’t do any worse than Zero, and most of the potential Republican candidates who’ve made it known they are running. Zero had absolutely no narrative, but was elected nonetheless on the “promise” of “Hope and Change,” whatever those terms meant.

Yes, there are some politicians in DC that get it. However they do not include Boehner, Cantor, and Ryan. These guys don't give a rat's rear end. All they care about is wielding power and using a lot of smoke, mirrors, and Beltway Two-Step to confuse Republican voters that do care about the country. In the Senate, forget McConnell. He's part of the problem just like Boehner.

It's not our last, bet hope.

It's our only hope.

Short of these draconian steps our nation will not endure and Liberty will be lost, finally, in the world.

Man's great experiment will have died.

A detailed look at the Rand Paul spending bill
posted back in Jan 2011

Everyone seems to find the time to be writing books.
The Tea Party Goes to Washington.
And every Congress member gets a copy
of Rand Paul’s new book.

Haven't you heard? Vacation is on the agenda:

The Senate agreed to adjourn for 10 days, a little Spring Break in following the lead of the House, which already had approved closing up shop through March 29.

But: just before adjourning, the House voted 228-192 to end federal taxpayer funding for NPR.

But: the Senate may not see eye to eye on the timely measure.

First things first: Rand did get into a heated debate on the Light Bulb Law..in last weeks Senate legislative hearing on two energy efficiency bills.

Call me a cynic on this administration getting anything done in a timely fashion.

[Sorry we are out of the office for much needed R&R through the 29th, please leave a messsage and someone will get back to you when we return and have a good day.]

He and his father are very smart. I would vote for Rand for President. They also both know the Federal Reserve is a private corporation owned by private banks and NOT the US Govt.

Go read what the Framers said about Central Banks.

The house is burning down. Rand Paul gets it. He is also not a Fed/elitist/CFR/Davos dummy.

Make no mistake. I think Rand Paul is great, but he hasn't done anything more than any garden variety Freeper would have done, had they just been elected to the US Senate.

The fact that the guy has some very bold and sensible ideas, doesn't make him fit to be Commander in Chief. I'm sorry, but I want a proven, battle-tested, world class leader in the White House in 2012.

I refuse to adopt the Democrats' standard of presidential qualifications (i.e., zero).

Yes he does, but he's been on the job exactly how long?

He’s great, has the right ideas and is one of the only honest politicans around. We will give him time to prove himself but I hope one day he will get the urge to run for president. He’s what we need!

A budget that does this:

Requires the process of entitlement reform, including Social Security and Medicare, with final implementation by FY2016 - Does not change Social Security or Medicare benefits - Block-grants Medicaid, SCHIP, foods stamps, and child nutrition

Cannot possibly achieve this:

Achieves a $19 billion surplus in FY2016

The guy's full of it. It looks like Washington Math has already claimed him as a victim.
