They’re frightened of being crucified in the press.
But the press will do it anyway.

You can listen to the audio testimony of the Director of the Dep’t of Administration on Wiseye.org - he is describing/defending the rules that were put in place to protect and provide for safety and security as required by the state laws that guid his duties.

Hire non-union workers to fix it.

The title conjures up images of enraged protesters wontonly hacking at the marble with pick axes. But...tape residue? So you take some alcohol and paper towels and rub. Any exterior surface that can’t withstand that is not fit for the job. And the damage was not deliberate. Who knew that tape would harm marble?

Marble is easily damaged, etched. Can't use detergents, oil base products, only mild soap.
I have marble floor in the entry, what a PAIN it is!

Leave it as it is and post permanent placards saying “This damage was caused by unions.”

So you take some alcohol and paper towels and rub. Any exterior surface that cant withstand that is not fit for the job. And the damage was not deliberate. Who knew that tape would harm marble? You're kidding right?!?! First off, alcohol etches marble and would be, perhaps, the absolute worst thing to do. Second, how is it excusable for public property to be desecrated at the whim of one group or another regardless of ideology? Ignorance is now a defense? Hmmmm I think thousands of criminal defendants would love to take a swipe at that defense.

Everyone is picking on the unions, but I would like to say a few nice things about them.
They are not worse than the Taliban.
And they are not as bad as Hitler.
A hundred years ago they got children out of coal mines. You got one right. "Mission accomplished, now go home."

You should see the damage to the marble walls in the Louisiana State Capitol building. Lead damage.
