With a schedule as hectic as President Obama's it must be hard to stick to a training regimen without help -- but why does he insist on having his old trainer fly out from Chicago to D.C. regularly when Obama and his wife exhort the rest of us to drive less? And in a recession? According to Ashley Parker at the New York Times, Obama's fitness czar Cornell McClellan comes out to D.C. every week:
Mr. McClellan grew up practicing martial arts, eventually earning a black belt, and as a college student realized that he had a knack for working with people. He owns Naturally Fit, a personal training and wellness center in Chicago, and now spends part of his week in Washington at Mr. Obama’s request.
“It was an easy sell for me, because I thought of it as kind of a duty, to serve the president,” said Mr. McClellan, who works out with the first couple, often in the early morning, at the gym in the White House residence. Mr. and Mrs. Obama both try to exercise for at least an hour every day, and Mr. McClellan says he usually sees them two to four times a week, depending on their schedules.

OK so he has a $110,000/year sinewy “body man” (the actual position title) who is with him ALWAYS, on EVERY TRIP for WHO KNOWS WHAT PURPOSE....
and now he flies some other bro out to DC four times per week to “work out with him”...

You know McClellan isn’t flying coach on his weekly visits, and the round-trip business class on Delta is $1,600 to $2,200.
Once you factor in the guy’s fee and per diem, the Obama’s are spending $5,000 to $6,000 per week, or $250,000 to $300,000 per year, on a personal trainer.
That’s your money.
Well....it is strange that he has all these “guys” taking care of him isn’t it?

The Obama's go way beyond the official numbers above. They blew their $19,000 for entertainment just on last weeks Motown shindig at the White House

Recall during the campaign how they made such a big deal that they were “just normal” people—He wore off rack suit and she wore JC Crew; bought IKEA furniture, etc. Guess some of us “normal people” have weathered the recession quite well. However with her high calorie governor’s dinner last nite (2,200 calories for dinner?!?!) and her 1,500 calorie ribs in Vail, she needs to do something.
This is nothing new... Many in government live like royalty and kings, then retire on lottery style government pensions...
He’s probably bench pressing him.
