Rush Limbaugh criticizes First Lady Michelle Obama's weight, nutritional campaign
LA Times ^ | February 22, 2011

Not to put too fine a point on it, but Rush Limbaugh is talking smack about First Lady Michelle Obama's weight? Rush Limbaugh? And Michelle "you-can-cut-glass-with-my-chiseled-biceps" Obama?

As you well know, Michelle Obama has been taking plenty of criticism from the right for her nutritional campaign to encourage kids to move more and eat healthier fare. Joining her in the campaign is retail giant Wal-Mart, which recently announced it would begin reducing the sodium and fat in many of its prepared foods.

No, you are probably right. Limbaugh more likely scarfs down $7.50 triple-cheeseburgers-extra-mayo and weighs the same as a Cadillac.

Rush has the moral authority to lecture on most all things that ails America. But not the “overweight” issue. Not Rush.

It would probably be a good idea for you to actually spend some time listening to Rush and then you wouldn't embarrass yourself (though I think that's probably an impossibility) in public saying such moronic crap that demonstrates you're talking about something of which you know only by hearsay. Are you sure you're not one of the gals from The View? Same M.O.. Joy, is that you?

“Before she does all her commands from the throne, she needs to lose about 50 pounds and start eating better.”

Better yet, she needs to STFU completely.

She’s at her UGLIEST when she’s telling others what to do.

(Pop him onto a scale, then pop the First Yeti onto a scale. Weigh them both...)

OK, that's funny but you're missing the point. Rush is calling out the First Yeti on the hypocracy of her Let's Move child obesity campaign vs. the lavish meals enjoyed by her and this White House. In addition, this administration is wasting taxpayer money on things like the $400 million Healthy Food Financing Initiative that "help places such as convenience stores and bodegas carry healthier food options".

Associate Justice Joseph Story’s construction of the Article I, Section 8 General Welfare Clause, as elaborated in Story’s 1833 “Commentaries on the Constitution of the United States”, concluded that the General Welfare Clause is not an independent grant of power, but a qualification on the taxing power which included within it a power to spend tax revenues on matters of general interest to the federal government.

Constitutionally, the federal government has no general, or even specific, authority to be concerned with what people eat, other than that it is generally “safe for human consumption”, if the State in which it is produced does not regulate products with that criteria; or, if a product produced in one State is sold in another State.

While it may be the current scientific consensus that such products are either safe or less safe, beyond recommendations, it is not within the authority of the federal government to *tax* for the purpose of dietary intrusion.

And please note that this includes taxes on such things as alcohol and tobacco.

I think we ought to lay off persona attacks as to appearance, etc.

The mere fact that I do not worship at the Temple of Rush does not make me a Troll.

Actually it does. Bashers of Sarah and Rush on FR are by nature, character and definition, trolls.

Those who live in glass houses &tc..

You missed the point entirely. Rush is not in the same type house as Ms. Obama. She doesn't live in a class house, she lives in the White House. And Rush isn't trying to tell anyone else what to eat, Ms. O.

There is no "glass house" equivalent in this story and Rush's weight is irrelevant since he isn't telling anyone else what to eat and how to live.

What? Rush is not the one telling the kids to eat healthy, therefore; he’s not being a hypocrite. The point is, if you’re carrying an extra 10 or 15 lbs (like Michelle Obama), it’s best to not give lectures on eating habits. If you listen to Rush, you would know that he tells people to live life to their fullest....and how he enjoys food and cigars.

Svelte????? Have you seen Rush lately? As on his Golf Channel shows?

Yeah he lost weight and bragged about it, but hasn’t said boo when he put the weight back on. The diet he was pushing the last time was just another replacement meal shake diet, can’t and won’t keep it up.

The difference is that rush does not try to make laws about how every one else eats.

He has also recently lost over 80 pounds prior to his wedding. That means something, too, and gives him a right to speak about such issues with understanding.

Rush isn’t trying to tell you to lay off the burgers and fries. He is not setting himself up as an example to follow.

Its ridiculous for Moochelle Obama to party on $100Lb beef, short ribs and ice cream and then act as the spokeswoman for the school lunch program. She is a total hypocrite.

Michelle Obama lecturing us on nutrition is like those pencil neck geeks on the radio lecturing an NFL quarterback on how they played the past Sunday.

I do not see Michelle as fat. She is a mature woman with a large, tall frame. I used to know a black woman who was built exactly the same as MO and I am sure she weighed 180 to 190 pounds. She even looked like MO in the face, I’ll bet their ancestors were members of the same tribe.
