Gallup: That electoral map for Obama in 2012 starting to look grim
Hotair ^ | 02/23/2011 | Ed Morrissey

That’s not quite what Gallup explicitly says in its analysis, but it’s a rather inevitable conclusion when one sees the graphic presentation of the results. Barack Obama lost eleven points in his approval ratings on a state-by-state basis in 2010, and now the floor has Obama in danger of losing the next election. Bear in mind when looking at the legend that the “average” approval rating for Obama was 47% — and that Obama had a 50% or better rating only in the dark-green states:

Obama’s overall average approval rating in 2010 was 47%, down 11 percentage points from the 58% he recorded in his first calendar year in office. For purposes of this state-by-state analysis, Obama’s average is calculated for the calendar year, and is therefore slightly different than the yearly average calculated beginning with his inauguration on January 20, 2009.

Broadly speaking, residents of 20 states gave Obama an approval rating within three percentage points of his national average (between 43.8% and 49.8%). Twelve states plus the District of Columbia had average approval ratings above that range, and in 18 states, approval fell below it.

The graphic is striking. Obama only gets majority approval for his performance on the West Coast and the Northeast — and not even all of those areas. He holds his home state of Illinois and his birth state of Hawaii, both unsurprisingly, but between the coasts there exists a vast land of either indifference or outright disapproval. Traditional Democratic states like Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania are wavering. The entire interior West has become outright hostile. More than half of the states have shown a double-digit decline in approval for Obama.

Presidents can win re-election with overall approval ratings below 50%, but that usually requires either a credible third-party challenge or an extraordinarily poor challenger. The economy would have to significantly improve to move these numbers in the direction where Obama can feel safe, and that seems unlikely to happen while Obama continues to press for regulatory adventurism.

Obama has a year at best to turn this around. He won the 2008 election at the peak of Bush fatigue by seven points nationwide. Continuing erosion in his standing puts the White House within the grasp of the GOP, especially if they nominate a credible candidate who can attract a “big tent” of those discontented with Obama.

“He is much more dangerous.”
/////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

It takes a truly insane creature to actually believe Obama’s BS. If Obie himself believes his own lies then he is really dangerous but I still have not become convinced that he really does believe that what he is doing is good for America. It would be like believing that the best treatment for tired feet is to cut them off. Can he really be that crazy/stupid?

The next few months will set History for how low a President’s approval rating can go... because there is nothing that will stop world events from causing even more pain and strife... and the dims have lost their friggin’ minds.

Yes. Narcissistic. Little real world experience i.e. a narrow world view. Prefers to focus on theory rather than reality. Community organizer. College teacher. Put up by the Dems as a figurehead. Believes the stuff learned from his mentors. Won’t be effected by the outcomes of his policies. Hangs around with Oprah too much.

Not NH. He turned the state around politically single handedly. Veto-proof senate and house now; lame duck governor. Very similar situation with the state senate and house in Maine, plus they got a pub governor.

I’m not ignoring it; our military is unable to do it and our country lacks the will. Our main enemy still floods our store shelves with cheap merchandise, while they modernize in the fashion of the Soviet Union after their civil war (shifting from agrarian to manufacturing). When is the last time you heard someone use the phrase “Red China”?

If we were serious about Islam as an enemy Mecca would be a wasteland; they could do nothing to stop it. Instead we let them into our Western homelands, where like Africanized bees they are slowly taking over the hive.

The US cannot leave Iraq, and it is more unstable now than pre-invasion. If Iran would administer it we’d be happy to let them.

There is some instability and Iran certainly is a factor in that.

The US isn't pulling out of Iraq completely, but our footprint here will be greatly reduced at the end of this year.

You are preaching to the choir homeboy... I despise the little red chicom bastards and have said so hundreds of times in almost 40,000 posts on FR. Rush and I both use the term Red Chinese... I avoid their crap whenever possible.

I am also on record stating that we are at war with islam and that they want all of us converted or dead... I have advocated nuking mecca and medina at least 40 times... right here on FR... now 41!

All I am saying is that within some of us, lies the spirit of ‘76... stand back if the SHTF... even an old ****er like me will answer the call. Some of us love America more than we love ourselves... and we love JESUS completely. WWII proved that when we have our back against the wall... we will intern our domestic enemies and **** the world up in whatever action is necessary for victory... I still believe that we will do so when push comes to shove. Remember... it was only 3% of the Colonists that stood against Britain... I am a 3 percenter.

Well put; with each generation that spirit fades further into dim memory. This dope in the White House has me yearning for a British monarch; how sad.

True... but we have generations of believers in that spirit serving in the Military... they joined because of that spirit... but they are not fat and lazy and indoctrinated like obamunists. We have hope... faith... and each other. With GOD’s grace, we will endure!

I hope so, but NJ voters were stupid enough to fall for the illegal, although “approved” by the state supreme court, switch from the crook scum Torricelli to the half dead Lautenberg in a Senate race.

Can’t trust voters that stupid.

Nobody in the real United States trusts anyone from the Northeast - and they shouldn’t.
