Its a little perplexing looking at the White House today. There was a statement on the horrible earthquake in New Zealand, and certainly our hearts go out to all those affected by this horrible natural disaster. But nothing on the slaughter in Libya? The protests in many places in the Middle East affect regimes that have cooperated with the U.S. on issues from peace with Israel, fighting al Qaeda, hosting our military forces, or cooperating against Irans nuclear ambitions. Gaddafis Libya is different. For four decades, this tyrant has held power. Gaddafi was Osama before Osama hit the scene. He ordered the bombing of a disco in Germany to kill Americans. When he paid the price for that after President Reagan rightly ordered retaliation he directed his agents to blow up Pan Am Flight 103. They did, and more than 250 innocent people died. Gaddafi tried to come in from the cold in 2003 scared by the demonstration effect of Iraq. But we should have no illusions. Gaddafi is a brutal killer and Libya not to mention the world would be better off if he were out of power. Now is the time to speak out. Speak out for the long-suffering Libyan people. Speak out for the victims of Gaddafis terror. NATO and our allies should look at establishing a no-fly zone so Libyan air forces cannot continue slaughtering the Libyan people. We should not be afraid of freedom, especially when it comes to people suffering under a brutal enemy of America. Heres to freedom from Gaddafi for the people of Libya.

I believe you are thinking in conventional terms. I don’t see a problem with that. It’s not unreasonable to do so.
It seems to me like a power grab. If you can have your fingers in ten pies, isn’t that better than five, even if you don’t particularly like the six rhubarb pies.
I’m no sage. I’m simply addressing what seems to me like an obvious planned regional series of uprisings.
Putting aside religious concerns, allows these folks to manipulate the process. Then they can either make adjustments later on, or simply be satisfied to have ten states that have a stronger power base than they would have had separately.
If the MB is smart, they’ll keep focused on wielding power, and avoid differences on dogma.
If you think that’s over simplistic, that’s okay. Perhaps it is. I don’t have a better explanation for what is taking place in eight to ten nations, all at once. I’m not a believer in spontaneous combustion across borders and throughout a region like this.
I guess you missed that “Here’s to” part....
see what you want to see I guess.
Interesting take on it. I’m not convinced you’re wrong.
Think about this: The USA just agreed to rapping Israel on the knuckles over their building apartments on land they won in various wars. Obama has been all over Israel since day one about these settlements, yet........ crickets about these brutal murders by a horrible dictator.
Muammar may be isolated but he was never punnished. I hope he is removed from power.
The same thing we can accomplish by getting stuck in that mess in Egypt, I suppose.
I pray I am wrong.
He forgot to hire a Czar of Protocol.
You still have the stupidest screenname on FR, I see.
But, aside from that, explain to us how Libya is now free.
Silence is what many observed in Nazi Germany when they slaughtered their own citizens. Didn’t work out too well there.
I believe he will be. And he will get his punishment. And it will come at a high price for the region, and the West.
I have railed on the guy for the last 40 years at least. I am very leery of where the whole region is headed from here.
We may be in a land war defending Israel within months. If we mix it up with Syria, old alliances may come into play.
I don’t think folks understand what this may turn into in short order.
Well, we don’t have to be in favor of things we see in the future. We only have to see the possibilities and try to be clear when we address them to others.
You take care Unseen1.
That was a hell of a good joke. They want freedom and democracy for one day. One day to vote in an Islamic theocracy.
If we get involved we will have more control over the new regime. If we do not then Iran will have more control over the new regime than the U.S. This is why Obama is happy to do nothing. Obama is happy to see Iran increase its influence in the region.
“What does Saint Sarah think we can accomplish by getting stuck in that mess?”
Pretty much the same thing we did in Iraq and forced the good Col into coughing up his nukes. Serve notice that someone with a little spine that has some power still lives in America and WILL take these tyrants on.
I couldn’t agree with you more!
It’s scary to think of where this all might end up.
I’m all for the Libyans choosing liberty, but if the replacement for a chastened Qaddafi is the pro-Al Qaeda Emirate of Barqa, this is a net loss for the US.
I will empathize with them.
Here's hoping that you sympathize and definitely not be forced to empathize with them.
uh. I did not post that first sentence.
Someone else did.
In otherwards, you posted to the wrong person.
