MADISON, Wis. Wisconsin's senate majority leader says the chamber will convene to pass non-spending bills and act on appointments Tuesday even if minority Democrats remain out of state.
Republican Sen. Scott Fitzgerald told The Associated Press on Sunday that he would be reviewing which bills and appointees to schedule for action. He says senators can't wait around "twiddling their thumbs" until the Democrats return.
Fourteen Democrats fled to Illinois last week to delay action on a budget bill that would effectively eliminate collective bargaining rights for most public employees. Republicans need 20 of 33 members to have a quorum to pass any spending bill but only a simple majority of 17 for other items.
Senate Minority Leader Mark Miller says Democrats will not return until Gov. Scott Walker is ready to compromise on his labor proposal.
THIS IS A BREAKING NEWS UPDATE. Check back soon for further information.

When does the union contract end?
It's a twofer. The rats are absent not because they give a twit about so called worker rights. They are gone because the bill is an assault on the funding of rat politicians, a fact that I must have missed scanning the column.
The union is a special interest group of the democrats.
It is up to the democrats to either return and negotiate, return and explain fiscal responsibility to the union or consider themselves null and void.
“They are the ones that walked out on their constituents...”
CLUELESS Constituents! The LibTards I still deign to talk to think they are brilliant, BRILLIANT in their ‘strategery’ to...RUN AWAY, LOL!
And require photo-ID to vote. While they're at it, pass Vermont-style CCW, and "Make My Day".
discourage them from coming back while you pass every non budget item..
Can't. It's fiscal, needs 60% quorum.
I am so sorry for your loss. Brothers are precious. Life is precious. May God comfort you and your family.
Solution: one republican SWITCHES PARTIS to demoncrat. Pas union legislation and switches back later. Done
No, those are union rights. The only worker's rights are those that have been promulgated. (think OSHA)
It’s very possible. That’s one reason I come here, FR is very influential. I think we’d be amazed if we knew how many elected officials read FR. Hell FR may have inspired them to run for office in the first place.
That’s why I post some of the things I do, especially on strategy, and everyone here should post good ideas. More than once I’ve posted a thought and seen it picked up a very short time later. Look at the whole fake memo thing with Dan Rather. You don’t know who’s reading and who’ll run with it.
This whole Wisconsin thing has a silver lining for sure - we might get some real cool stuff passed.
As I've posted before, to quote that great theologian that Rats revere: "We won, you lost"--obamma (2010). To the Rats: Now get the hell out of the way and lets the Republicans fix your damn mess, once again!!!!
Agreed. Pass a law on the BC/eligibility, pass laws where teachers can opt out of the union, pass other laws to force the Dems to come back.
Diana! Send them THIS suggestion!!!
Oh please, Oh please..do it for the REST of the state!!!
Pleeeeeeeze???
Couldn’t tell you, not soon enough.
I think the Repubs should go en mass,
find one of these democrats even in
another state, declare a
quorum, and have the vote on the spot.
I feel sure there is some contingency
plan for if the state capital was destroyed
by natural disaster, if so wouldn’t the seat
of government be wherever they had a quorum?
When the North Koreans invaded the South in June 1950, the Russians walked out of the UN Security Council. Without the possibility of a Russian veto, UN members sent troops to fight the Communist invaders in Korea. The Russians never made THAT kind of tactical mistake again.
The WI Donkeys may just have done the same thing by going AWOL from the WI Senate. Now is the time to fast track all the legislation possible while these scum are on “vacation”. There are many, many non-financial things an “unencumbered” WI Senate can do to improve the lives of Cheese heads in the state. The counterattack on “Progressives” starts now.
