The trailer for Atlas Shrugged Part 1 has finally been released!
Sounds interesting. How so?
Yep, that was her. She’s great, isn’t she? I loved that whole series....even though it scared, me, lol.
Hank Reardon’s brother is PERFECT.
I kind of think she said something similar to Jim Taggart when she was doing something with stock-shares to finance the John Galt line and she was forced to trust him when she knew perfectly well he was untrustworthy.
I remember when Angelina Jolie was touted for the part. When I watch her, all I can see are those absurd silicone-pumped lips, like the wax lips we used to play with as kids.
“I thought that it would be better as a HBO miniseries, than as a movie. Im relieved that it will at least be a trilogy. The material requires that much time, to do it justice.”
A miniseries could’ve been good. But I don’t know, if they can make a great movie out of “Gone With the Wind” and a decent one out of “War and Peace,” it could be done with “Atlas Shrugged.”
Drop the monologues and right away you’re left with about 200 pages./s
Did you read my entire initial comment?
Or did you read one sentence and knee-jerk react with a "pompous remark?"
Enquiring minds want to know.
“But she didn’t intentionally destroy anyone, nor did any of the people who wound up in the Gulch despite the name she gave to Galt. Maybe one could say Francisco did or Ragnar did but even there it would be a stretch.”
One could say Galt intentionally destroyed the entire U.S., and that’s not a stretch.
“Another problem: no A-list actors.”
No doubt stars make a box office difference. I suspect their cost-benefit ratio is off and that they are generally overpaid, but I don’t know enough about the industry to say for sure.
One thing I do know is that great movies don’t need them. If you look at the top grossers of all time, they conspicuously lack stars. That is, with the exception of Clark Gable in “Gone With the Wind.” “Star Wars”? Alec Guniess in a supporting role, then no one. “E.T.,” no one. “Titanic,” before Leo was big. “The Ten Commandments,” before Heston made it. “Jaws,” character-actors Robert Shaw and Roy Scheider, then no one. “Dr. Zhivago,” no one. “Avatar,” Sigourney Weaver in a small role, and no one else.
I could go on. Of course, these are the biggest movies of all time, and are therefore outliers. If you want to win a random weekend box office, you go with a name. All I’m saying is that ultimately the quality of the movie is what’s important.
I can't wait to herar the liberals/MSM: "I thought that conservatives HATED trains..thy want to defund Obama's high speed rail program.."
I watched the trailer...obviously it was made on a tight budget. I wonnder if it would ahve been mor successful does as a period piece..set at the time the book was written.
It’s OK. I know you mean well.
It seems to me that you have touched on the exact meaning of Atlas Shrugged.
What "duty" do competent people have to prevent the incompetent from destroying themselves and others?
I think Rand is saying that the competent have no duty to anyone but themselves and those about whom they care. Withdrawing support is a RIGHT and not a destructive act. The destruction was all at the hands of the incompetents.
A lot of the films you mentioned had A-list directors (even if no A-list actors in prominent roles), big budgets, or ground breaking special effects (like Star Wars).
The AS Part I clip looked okay, but nothing spectacular. In fact, some of the footage (like the trains) looked like stock footage. And I don’t have to tell you that the MSM movie reviewers will be negative.
Of course, AS has a LOT of fans, many of whom have been waiting a long time for the movie (like me) That by itself will enable it to do okay at the theaters. But I think the DVD sales will make this film very successful.
I think Angela Jolie would make a good Dagny. She is really a good actress when she wants to be.

Thanks Pub, it is looking good!
No.
He let the others destroy themselves. There's a difference.
