Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas) took to the House floor Tuesday night to criticize what she called a "demeaning" Pepsi ad that aired during the Super Bowl.
In the ad for Pepsi Max, a black woman sitting on a park bench gets angry with her husband after an attractive, white female jogger sits down next to the couple and smiles and waves at the man.
After the man smiles back, his girlfriend or wife gets angry and whips her Pepsi Max can at him. The man ducks, and the can hits the attractive jogger in the head. The ad is titled "Love hurts."
Jackson Lee said it was ridiculous for the soft drink maker to air the advertisement during African-American history month.
"In this month of African-American history where we're trying to celebrate what is good and great, it certainly seems ridiculous that Pepsi would utilize this kind of humor," she said. "It was not humorous. It was demeaning an African-American woman throwing something at an African-American male and winding up hitting a Caucasian woman."

Just imagine the roles reversed, so that it would be a big joke when two whites knocked out a black woman “by accident.”
Lee waits on a daily basis to be offended. She waits for it.
I thought it was one of the few funny ones. Too bad Jackson Lee has no sense of humor. How’s she on the State Farm commercials where the African-American woman wishes she had a hunk for a hubby (by ‘singing’ the State Farm jingle), gets him and then gets mad when he does the same?
Or does her memory not go back that far?
I’m glad old Sheila is on top of the critical issues facing this nation.
This stupid b*tch would find racism in an oreo cookie.
I found it demeaning to white women
What??!
You don’t??
Your skin is much too thick, my FRiend. /s/
Well, how else could she be a perpetual, professional victim?
SJL is an affront to the great state of Texas.
It was funny. Not quite as good as Roseanne Barr, or whoever that was, getting zonked by a log, but it was good.
I wouldn’t call it demeaning. I think I’d use the term Assault and Battery.
Ms. Jackson-Lee is correct about the commercial not being the least bit funny, though.
I thought it was black history month.
The black woman in question represents Michelle Obama, no?
This particular ad somehow reminded me of Michelle and Barack....and how Michelle is always giving him grief for what he eats.
Racist? no
Sexist? no
Demeaning? no
Somewhat violent? ok
Typical of married couples (no matter what race)? Yeh..I can see it.
Once again, another lib’s feelings are hurt....lets regulate.
Some people live just to get their knickers twisted. Sounds like she is one of them. Since she thought the commercial was in bad taste for February’s Black History Month... would it have been funny in March? Just a thought.
This lady needs to slow down and relax a mite. Maybe have a Pepsi?
I took away, hit white biatch with soda can in head and run to avoid the situation. Nice message if you're going to worry about the societal consequences of pepsi commercials.
All I’ll say is that most good comedy is based partially on the truth, so I wonder if Ms. Jackson-Lee is projecting a bit?
Pretty obvious we haven’t gotten to a ‘post racial’ society.
But I’m also wondering if Ms. Lee isn’t also suffering from and covering over the widely known anger of black women at black men who show any perceived attraction for white women.
