Sen. Jim DeMint, the conservative star from South Carolina, is keeping a close eye on the emerging 2012 presidential field. New names, he observes, keep popping up. One of those, of course, is former Florida governor Jeb Bush. Rich, Kathryn, and John have all written about Bush’s appeal in recent days.

DeMint, in an interview with National Review Online, calls Bush “one of the best” possible presidential contenders. “Maybe the person we are looking for has not stepped out yet; it could be a Rick Perry or a Jeb Bush.”

“[Bush] would be a really good president and a good candidate,” DeMint says.

DAMMIT JIM, Don’t you duck your responsibility!

Your country needs you and if you love it at all, you need to respond, not deflect!

For what, President of Mexico? What is it about the GOP that makes them want to immediately squander away any good will they manage to gain with their base?

Perhaps he’s trying to get Bush into the race, to help split up the Blue Blood money, so that he (or Palin) can be more effective with the grass-roots money.

Just speculating...

Interesting theory, although if it’s try and backfired, we’re screwed! Well not as much as with Obama, but...

She stepped out right after the election when all the testosterone-deficient finger-in-air repub politicos were busy whispering among one another.

Can people not recognize a leader?

The native peoples had war chiefs (young warriors) and peace chiefs (former young warriors). When the republicans were lacking both on a national stage there was someone taking it to the opposition.

If the pubbies go for presto-chango strategies they’ll dazzle themselves right out of contention. I believe that the “take one for the team” that induced conservatives to hold their noses and vote for McCain is all used up.

In other words: run a conservative or run along home.

I agree NO BUSHES!

But, boy was he a good Governor and really well liked here. If he had won his first Governors race, when W did in Texas, he might well have been the candidate instead of W.

Maybe his son in another 10-15 years. He might run here in Florida first. He is handsome and very well spoken as well as appealing to the growing population here in Florida.

My cousin used to run a tech co. in FL when Jeb was Guv, and he was solid all around. Sure, he’s a freakin Bush but he knew and walked the walk that to leave business alone and allow them to prosper. It all came crashing down when Crist replaced him.

What you say is right!

I would only wonder about his stand on immigration and amnesty. That was not an issue that was pursued on the state level.

PBS just ran a special on MLK & RFK. It took me 15 minutes to rediscover reality.

Snow is melting. I can start going door-to-door next week. Special elections in the eternal campaign.
