US special envoy Frank Wisner has said that Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak should remain in power to oversee a transition to democracy.
The remarks appear to contradict previous US calls for Mr Mubarak to begin an immediate transition.

12:30 PM: It appears that Frank Wisner, the special US envoy sent to Cairo, was flatly rebuffed when he tried to meet with Mubarak for a second time earlier this week. As I reported below, Wisner left Egypt. Here’s a brief New York Times account, part of along article, including a reference to Vice President Biden’s phone call to Vice President Suleiman:
Vice President Joseph R. Biden, Jr., spoke by phone to Mr. Suleiman on Thursday, the White House said in a statement, urging that ”credible, inclusive negotiations begin immediately in order for Egypt to transition to a democratic government that addresses the aspirations of the Egyptian people.“
Mr. Biden’s phone call came after a mission by Mr. Obama’s private emissary, Frank G. Wisner, was abruptly ended when Mr. Mubarak, angry at Mr. Obama’s toughly worded speech on Tuesday night, declined to meet with the envoy a second time, officials said.
Wisner was snubbed by Mubarak because of Obama’s comments and was told to get the hell out of Cairo.
1. Obama gives televised address, taking credit for Mubarak's decision to retire when his term ends in September.
2. One day later, Gibbsie says that Mubarak "has to go...now" and "now means yesterday".
3. Today, Wisner, the guy on the ground, says that Mubarak must stick around -- to manage an "orderly translition".
This administration isn't just not on the same page, they're not even reading from the same playbook.
All of this is funny as hell -- the 3 stooges in a clown car, if you will. But, in foreign relations, being a joke is the recipe for disaster.
Of course Zero will ignore this advice.
Mr Wisner is surely a JOOOO therefore B. Hossein Obama does not listen.
That’s interesting! I still can’t imagine that this would dissuade Obama, however, and I wonder who is calling the shots now and letting Wisner say this.
The negative judgments about CAIR date to 2007 and 2008, while George W. Bush was President. It would be interesting to know if there are behind-the-scenes contacts between the Obama administration and CAIR.
As the Egyptian situation evolves by the minute, the American Pharaoh is looking more and more like a total asp.
By the time the Sunday interview begins, O'Reilly will barely be able to say, "Mr. President, as you know I'm fair and balanced...." and then he'll fall over in a dead faint.

Presidents are supposed to be proactive. This one, on this subject, has been reactive and even late at that. Everyone saying different things daily, what a shower !
Wisner is a pro and a patriot
It is really serious, the damage he’s doing to us in every area. He’s not even a constitutionally qualified president.

Is it a “live” interview ?
No matter, BOR will ask the usual softball questions otherwise he’ll lose access. These interviewers are all the same, from David Frost on forward, bully the little guy, suck up to the big guy.
One of Stanley Kurtz' first articles on Obama's background noted a curious relationship between Obama and the concept of "power".
Kurtz interviewed all his previous supervisors. In every case, he found that Obama had left his position -- whether community organizer or U.S. Senator -- because it didn't afford him enough "power".
Every step up the ladder, then, has been a quest for more "power".
I'm led to the conclusion that Obama has no idea what actually constitutes power, how to earn it or how to wield it. His concept of power doesn't involve leadership or any form of persuasion.
Instead, his concept is that, as the POTUS -- and, thus, the most "powerful" man in the world -- he issues decrees. People will then bend to his will and what he wants to have happen, happens.
Viewed in this light, it explains a lot...
They want us to think he’s clueless, when in fact he’s focused and Machiavellian and, controlled by forces hostile to the free world.
The other day, Christiane Amanpour scored an interview with Mubarak and his son Gamal (she had gone to the Presidential Palace to interview Vice President Omar Suleiman, and Mubarak happened to be available).
She reported Mubarak said he was tired after 60 years in public service and was ready to quit but could not quit right now, because to do so would plunge Egypt into chaos. I don't care what people say about me. Right now I care about my country, I care about Egypt,
said Mubarak.
The Mubaraks also confirmed Gamal had no plans to succeed his father.
I think what I’m saying is that at the end of the day, 0bama flat out isn’t all that smart. He certainly has disdain for the United States, out traditions, our Constitution, our system of law, our culture, and our history. No question about it. But his approach to the office is that of a street thug. His approach is like Tony Soprano sittin’ down da boyz around the council table in back of the Ba Da Bing club and issuing orders to this one and telling that one he’s out and smacking this one upside the head because this got screwed up. And he’s got his favorites and his capos and his lieutenants.
And he really has no particular strategic vision. He has tactical vision. He’ll change this law and get the unions to vote this way. He’ll change the law and force this industry to come crawling on their knees begging for alms and exemptions. He’ll paint himself as this Robin Hood for the underpriveleged while removing the opportunity for the underpriveleged to get themselves out of being underpriveleged. But the picture at the end, when all these programs are in place, is a thugocracy, that’s all. It’ll be an economic hierarchy run by the distribution of favors and tribute done by and for and given to insiders. Maybe there will be half a dozen uber-electronic entrpereneurs a la Google or Apple or Facebook and these will be pointed to as how great the economy is doing, but J6P will be seriously constrained as to the opportunities he/she once had in the US.
