The entire staff of the Israeli Embassy in Cairo has been evacuated by helicopters.

I know a guy who travels there regularly to repair and upgrade the machine tools on the manufacturing line. A service depot wouldn’t have the machining centers that can make transmissions from raw castings..

Yeah, it would. A $25,000 CNC machine can be used to make replacement parts, repair existing ones, or mill new transmission casings.

If the 6th Fleet can get to Egypt on time, they may be able to get all Ameericans there out..

You spread the popular myth that the Embassy’s and other Diplomatic Missions are protected by Marines. Marines are there.... While the protection of human life in omni important, they are there to protect the informmation assets which we do not want to fall into other nation’s hands. Without Marines, a diplomatic mission must close down com’s and lock up the building - with Marines, our operations are 24/7.

What are you, an 18th century European monarch?

Are you serious? Do you remember, or have you read about, the hostage crisis from ‘79? 440 days the US Embassy staff was held hostage. Killed any chance Carter might have had for reelection. They lost the White House AND the Senate in ‘80. The hostages were released on Reagan’s Inauguration Day.

Oh God wouldnt the Dems just be in heaven if an embassy hostage crisis were to happen. They would play that right up to the 2012 election....Because it worked so well for Jimmy Carter?
That was the final nail in his coffin.
An incumbent was creamed in a landslide.

Still, 350 Marines are a bad, bad, bad force to come up against. And this coming from a former sailor. It would certainly be a bad force to come up against, but the limp-wristed, liberal, let's-all-hold-hands-and-sing-Kumbaya Rules of Engagement would hamstring them.

Call Ayers, Dorhn and CODE PINK and the Moslem Brotherhood
to congratulate them on our success.
I will give them Congressional Medals of Honor.

I would hate to be one of those 350 embassy guards tonight.Crazed muslims as far as the eye can see,and not much hope for any relief.
The embassy is apparently now protected, externally, by the Egyptian military with armor.
The US has a very good relationship with the Egyptian military. The Egyptian military is also VERY MUCH AWARE of what happened to the Iranian military after it stood by when the Shah was ousted.
