The BBC is reporting that Egyptian Army tanks have allegedly surrounded the embassies of the United States and United Kingdom. This comes after Israel evacuated its entire embassy staff via helicopter. This is coming in through their live blog, and further details appear scarce. The BBC is quoting an al-Jazeera cable:
2125: Tanks have surrounded the US and British embassies in Cairo, Al-Jazeera reports.
This could be a huge, huge problem. This is similar to 1979 when the Islamic rebels took the US Embassy and held hostages for 444 days.
Heck yeah, they do. The factory can be skuttled but it will take a lot more to skuttle 900 tanks.
WTH is our government doing giving technology like this to unstable countries?

Probably should have already gotten the people out. The Marine guard there has got to be fit to be tied figuring out a plan.
If the MEU goes in it will be a major operation as far from the coast as Cairo is. A long trek into hostile territory. I think I saw that there are over 600 personnel and dependents affiliated with the embassy there. That is a lot of chopper flights or something.
We should send Egypt another 60 billion in U.S. tax dollars, and hopefully they’ll protect our embassy.
If you are an American in the Embassy under this administration does it really make that much of a difference at this point? Either way you're ____ed.
sorry dragnet2, I didn't mean to take out a rant under you. I pray our people are removed quickly. To leave them inside Egypt is lunacy at this point. Things can and do quickly change in the Middle East. Today is just one example...imho I pray the zer0 and his crowd remove our people immediately.

If he gets a bunch of our people killed at our embassy, he knows he’s not going to get re-elected. All those vacations and free shit he, manchelle, his mom-in-law and the girls are getting....pooff! Gone! Back to Chicago. But hey, Rahm will be there, so maybe he’s cool with that.
Obama should be very careful on how this is handled and put some serious forethought into possible next steps. This could spin out of control very quickly and if it does we have thousands of American citizens lives in danger. HE BETTER HAVE A PLAN!
