This is much worse than a Taliban-like regime.
Al Jazeera: Intense gunfire heard near key govt buildings in Cairo.
Al Jazeera: Military has still not declared whether they will support govt or protestors.
Mubarak has badly overstepped and the Obamanation has enabled him.
The Egyptian people do not want to see Mubarak establish a dynasty. Dictator for life was bad enough.
The Muslim Brotherhood needs to be contained but the US should have been pressuring for opening up human rights, clamping down on corruption, and some sort of non-dynastic process for succession .
Instead Obama went to Cairo and praised the Muslim world uncritically and criticized the US for interference.
What is worse than hegemony? A power void.
If the MB is on the other end of the line we need to do whatever it takes to prevent that from happening. If we’re unable to prevent the MB from taking over Egypt then we have bigger problems than I thought.
Sometimes it’s not pretty but you have to do what you have to do.
Was Mubarak vacillating because we wouldn’t back him? If he felt he could count on our support would he have been firmer in responding? He’s faced MB protests before and dealt with them easily because he knew we were behind him.
I mean, the MB? Really? The MB, EIJ, GI. What a nightmare. They AZ’s boys. Not a pretty sight.
Our Dear Leader, like the MB, likely supports El Baridi, as the man was instumental in helping Iran obtain nuclear materials.
Looks like a bunch of college kids on the site, playing into the idea Egyptians are going to benefit from the overturn of Mubarak’s rule.
They see the Islamic prayer position and assume Godly people are being oppressed. In reality, they are merely being gamed by these pretenders.
Ten minutes later they’ll be heaving rocks at anything in sight.
I also just read Mubarak has canceled his appearance due ( I kid you NOT) to “sudden illness”...
I guess supporting the majority of the Egyptians who are sitting peacefully at home isn't an option?
