Could Freepers who are discussing which Pres contender would handle Egypt the best please start their own thread?

Agreed, but the thread got derailed when an anti-Palin grenade was tossed in the room without provocation.

2:00 PM State Department briefing cancelled.

My guess is Mubarak has fled Egypt and they have no idea what to say.

And another interesting view:

For a more sober take, read David Ignatius for a reminder that revolutions that start off inspired by liberation often don’t end up that way. Quote: “[F]rom the French and Russian revolutions to the Iranian uprising of 1979, the idealistic but disorganized street protesters usually give way to a manipulative revolutionary elite – the ‘Revolutionary Guard,’ as the Iranians like to call them.” The Brotherhood has the best organized opposition and a potential western-friendly front man in ElBaradei. What could go wrong?

Per CNN. Delta has one more flight scheduled out of Egypt but then will be suspending operations in Egypt.
CNN still waiting for some sort of WH briefing.

“....we have a man in the white house telling the Govt’s to tone it down and yet he said nothing when Iran’s Govt was killing people.”

“...the timidity of American power and the refusal of the Obama administration to embrace the cause of the opposition must be reckoned one of American foreign policy’s great moral embarrassments.’’

And that is a truly scary thought.

Well, you may be right. Instincts and character are required for strategic decisions.

When those are poorly made, the need for tactical decisions increases greatly. See Jimmy Carter/Iran.

*but Obama tried to calm them yesterday, and said “violence is never answer*

I've studied World History and basically the whole world works like Mexican Drug Cartels.

In the end it is all about money and the world is and always has been run by gangsters and thugs.

The only path to Liberty is violence. Tyrants don't give up power because they are nice. They are only in power because they are ruthless.

Went to $3.19 around here yesterday. We’ll probably be dreaming of $3.19 before long.

Maybe it’s the American in me, but I truly believe that all people just want to be free. Humans, no matter the religion, race or creed, want to live their lives, be with and raise their families, pursue their happiness, without some damn dictator/despot running their lives. Yes, I believe this.

You have no clue about Islam. The problem we have is believing what you state, Islam is not rational, and trying to view it through our own values, is folly.

I respectfully disagree with those on this thread that say it’s a forgone conclusion that hardcore Islamists will end up in power in Egypt or elsewhere.

Truthfully, no one has the foggiest idea how this will play out. It’s not even clear that there will be any change at all.

With apologizes, I'm copying your words, adding a few, bolding them, and making them larger.

Could Freepers who are discussing which Pres contender would handle Egypt the best please start their own thread? This thread should not be about Sarah Palin, whether you support her, or if you don't support her, as a candidate.

I keep hearing conflicting reports. Fox radio says its pro democracy riots. Others reporting Islamic hardliners. Which is it?

It's both.

Islamic hardliners want elections (democracy), which they will win overwhelmingly, so they can give the people what they want (sharia at home, war abroad).

It's really, REALLY simple.
