The American Embassy in Cairo helped a young dissident attend a US-sponsored summit for activists in New York, while working to keep his identity secret from Egyptian state police.
On his return to Cairo in December 2008, the activist told US diplomats that an alliance of opposition groups had drawn up a plan to overthrow President Hosni Mubarak and install a democratic government in 2011.

China never makes an appearance unless it will benefit them. This whole thing is going to errupt as nations protect their interests. This is all soooo not good!
Look at Iraq and the treasured blood we lost freeing it and the fledging democracy that may or may not hold. Are you willing to take those same measures in Egypt were the Islamic terrorists to topple Mubarak? I'm not.
Looking back, would you prefer the Iran of today, or the Iran under the Shah?
I think Mubarak has to retain power for as long as he can, or until another pro-Western, replacement can be found.
Elections would be a farce. Iran is behind this upheaval. The Moslem Brotherhood is an Islamic terrorist group.
