Yes you dumb sh*t.

It is times like this we need strong leadership governed by principle, something Governor Palin has in spades.

What we don’t need is a weak a$$ed liberal or a squishy moderate trying to appease all sides.

Obama = Carter, in domestic and foreign policy

I think you are mistaken when you say most people wanted the Shah gone. No. The students at the local university wanted him gone. Those who didn’t like him cozying up to the West wanted him gone. Many people didn’t mind him at all.

By Middle-Eastern standards the Shah was a fairly enlightened guy. Women were not forced to wear Islamic garb. They didn’t have to hide their faces. They could attend school and the university.

We try to impose our circumstances on the Middle-East. It won’t work.

Look folks, we live in a stable society. And even in our stable society you and I can see how easily the system is gamed.

In the Middle-East you rule with an iron fist, or you don’t exist long. Those people war with other nations. They war with other factions. They war with their leaders. They war with each other.

There’s a faction on every other block. They’re like a bunch of gangs all vying for power. You let your guard down for a few weeks and you’re done.

In this atmosphere, ruling like a Western leader will get you dead and your nation a death sentence along the lines of Iran’s.

If Israel goes down, she is taking the entire Middle East with her.

Hence the last line of my post. Israel has in the past made it clear both by word and more importantly by action in 1968 and 1973 that so long as they stood a chance in a conventional conflict the conflict would stay conventional. But if they are being overrun by Islamic fanatics bent on another Holocaust, well things are likely to get radioactive.

The people looking to take over Egypt consider the ‘73 war as unfinished business, and they are gonna need jobs and a unifying cause for tens of millions of Egyptians to keep themselves in power

They are looking for another Nasser, only this time a more Pro-Islamic version.

Pray for Americans in Egypt right now. Remember what happened to Americans in Iran.

Let’s hope this spreads througout the middle east.

Something tells me you're not fully grasping what "this" is.

"Cute.... but a responsible person might ask, "Is Sarah Palin the sort of person we want to deal with this kind of situation? Hell no," is my answer."

Just exactly what is the undocumented kenyan doing about this situation?

And we have those Wikileaks punks to thank for all of this.

Can you refresh my memory on this? I don't recall which leaks pertain to this...thanks!

The great un-asked questions: Will similar civil unrest begin to occur here? Who will start it? Who will get blamed for it? How will it end?

The USA needs to evaluate its obligations to the rest of the world. If picking leaders of other countries means to fight against demographics and self-determination, then we are spitting against the wind. Our first obligation is to ourselves if we are to survive. Bailing out the world with jobs, factories, troops and money has placed us on the downward path to self-destruction.

Well, under Mubarak, women can still walk around unveiled without getting stoned for being “sluts,” there is at least technically freedom for Christians, there are courts not staffed by mullahs...

None of these things will be true after Egypt falls to the Muslim Brotherhood or any of the Islamist forces. And it will still be an impoverished hellhole - and a police state much fiercer and far-reaching than ever before.

And the new rulers will still be fattening their Swiss bank accounts.

I suspect from your posts you are not sophisticated enough to understand how the game is played

A controlled and compromised and thus limited smuggling operation is much preferable for Israel, than what may follow Mubarak.

Further, I’m not at all convinced that the vast bulk of those rioters are necessarily Muslim extremists but I do think the more powerful are. I truly think a lot of those rioters want freedom from this awful Muburak and maybe can’t see the morrow, which might be worse.

That was also the case in Iran, back in '79. The problem is, when it comes to revolutions, power generally goes to those most willing to use violence to achieve their ends.

And the Shah of Iran, as I understand it, was no Mr. Nice Guy either. He’s painted as a “benovolent dictator” but I’ve read he was questionable.

He was brutal and corrupt, and most Iranians hated him. He needed to go. But the effects of long-term US support (and that of other countries, too), followed by Carter's simply abandoning him, were disastrous.

I have no illusions as to Obama's ability to understand or properly deal with this situation. It's bad, and maybe impossible, to deal with it...

The best outcome I can see at this point, would be to help a somewhat responsible "caretaker" government take and keep power for a while, and to have that government institute reforms.

It's clear that Mubarak's government is going to fall. I'm thinking ElBaradei is the guy we have to back here, even if he's not the most wonderful fellow.

If Obama's team has any brains at all, they're pushing hard on Mubarak to get in touch with ElBaradei and to work out some means of transitioning power as soon as possible.

But I doubt it will happen.

I think you’re right about the foresight of the W administration. I bet our forces in Iraq are on high alert.

I also think, as I’ve said before, that I don’t necessarily think the bulk of these rioters are necessarily part of the Muslim Brotherhood, though I’ve no doubt the MB is running the show.

But hey, it doesn’t matter cause no matter who we may be “rooting” for, what’s gonna happen will happen. I’ve no confidence whatsoever in this administration to handle it right, dag, Biden’s already out and calling Muburak NOT a dictator.

Not saying he should be calling Muburak names but maybe just silence would be more prudent at this point in time.

Wikileaks fueled the unrest in Tunisia, which was the original spark for what is happening all over the Middle East.
