China's rapid growth is often painted as a threat to American interests. But President Obama said today that the country's economic progress benefits the United States and opens the door to greater international stability and humanitarian progress.
"We welcome China's rise," Mr. Obama said at a press conference at the White House with Chinese President Hu Jintao. "I absolutely believe that China's peaceful rise is good for the world, and it's good for America."

I’m sure FReepers will go headlong on attack mode damning the Messiah for saying something about the hated Chicoms.
The fact is, he is merely putting a bow on the obvious.
China is.
What he says or thinks or does really doesn’t matter much. China is going to continue to emerge and grow economically regardless of him.
Although categorically rejected by many here, it is a big world and there is life beyond and out of control of America. Change in the rest of the world is underway to prosper and improve lives to the point of ours, Europe’s and Japan. We cannot stop that change
Totalitarian, maybe back in the 1950's and 1960's. But today, no. People in China can come and go as they please. And while there isn't a democracy, i.e., free elections, the Chinese leadership are mindful of public sentiment. And here is an irony you may not be aware of. The communist party in China is actually containining a strong nationalistic sentiment in China.
And, "ponder life," you are full of yourself.
No, I am not. Rather, my comment was an observation about people like yourselves.
Yes, there is a big world out there. However, we are the leaders of the Free World. Therein lies the difference. There is no need to be fatalistic, i.e. passive, about this bogus "rise" of China. If you think China as #1 superpower would be better than the U.S.A., I disagree with you. We are the most advanced in all areas. This administration endangers that, so we work to bring back leadership that believes in success, believes in freedom and furthers the priorities that brought us to where we are. Otherwise, why would you bother with patriotism and conservatism at all?
You’re a troll.
No, not a troll. Rather, I feel it is necessary to share an alternative perspective on this subject.
The Myth of Communist China Overall, China’s not the Communist hell-hole most Americans think. In many ways, it’s much more capitalistic and free-market and libertarian than the US! http://simplyshrug.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=64:the-myth-of-communist-china&catid=31:general&Itemid=50
Ironic, though, that despite the realities described in that link, people here on the FR will still see China as an old Leninist/Marxist state.
Hey, TE, did you know that Communist China is a “myth?”
These guys posting above remind me of your old PRC buddy with whom you had “vigorous discussions.”
Unbelievable. And FR doesn’t care that they post their pro-communist propaganda.
The time for China to out distance America is not on the immediate horizon. The progress to date is trivial with the distance yet to go to achieve parity.

We are creating a new world, a balanced world. A new world order, a multipolar world, Chavez told reporters during a visit to Communist China, one of many. His new world order includes [RUSSIA], China, Iran,... and a significantly weakened United States, he explained.

Like you said, not a conservative on the list.
It doesn't take much to earn that title. Makes me want to puke.

Holy smokes. That is one disgusting list if liberal blivets...
Chris Christie is a conservative.
Wow, check out that posting history. All China, all the time.
Same seems to be true with “kronos77” and some others who post nothing but pro-Russia BS. “kronos77” actually states openly that he supports and likes KGB Putin.
Nah. Guess who China has to worry about?
India! They are set to surpass China in population in two decades or so: estimates vary as to exact year. Additionally, India is expected to surpass China’s GDP growth rate. Again, this is tied to population growth.
India is a democracy and China is not. President Bush did much to establish and further our alliance with India. Barack Hussein has bumbled it and that’s why we need savvy (Reagan conservative type, not isolationist) leadership ASAP.
If one is not tied into pro-China, anti-American propaganda as the two preceding posters are, you can view wide ranging sources and get the picture: http://www.businessweek.com/magazine/content/11_04/b4212009727572.htm
I think investigations are in order. Investigations of obama, his administration and the obama/China/GE/NBC/Immelt relationship. It stinks and the people just suck it up. Shame on the media. Will the last “journalist” please turn out the lights.
